Take the funicular to the Cathedral. Avoid weekends as the queue is long. The town around is nice and quiet. I would go again. The gift shop is also a place to visit.

The Basilica in Lyon is really worth a visit, best way is via the Fenicula railway.

The position of this historical Basilica is very imposing and dominates the area....stunning views right across Lyon to the Alps.

The architecture and freezes are both large, bold, colourful and full of history.

Situated on the Place des Terreaux, the original structure dates from the 17th c. Several fires led to a new facade mid-19th c. Its grand scale eclises the nearby Musee des Beaux Arts. It can be toured.

Beautiful and large complex of modern and ancient architecture. They took an old hospital building and made it into a luxury hotel, shopping center, and other features such as the Cite International de la Gastronomie. It was filled with young people happy to hang out and enjoy the atmosphere. Free to visit, you can wander from one courtyard to another inside and the outside facade, sometimes modern, sometimes ancient is attractive too. Don't miss the chapel.

One of 44 traboules open to the public each day. Look for the bronze plaques notating the entrances.

The Exchange Building located between Place Bellecour and Hotel De Ville is very nice to look at, especially at night when lit up beautifully. Although only able to view from the outside it is well worth a stop to admire the fabulous architecture while passing!

Beautifully set on the quayside it is a powerful statement of stately law and order. Completed in 1847 it is in the style of the then tradition of Neo-Classicism.

Renowned for its array of 24 columns with grand Corinthian capitals it is regarded as one of the most outstanding such edifices in France.

Beginning in 2008 it underwent a multi-year refurbishment followed by a ceremonial reopening in 2013.

This can be found in one of the traboules in the old Lyon. There are apartments with the traboule so br respectful with noise. No charge.

this is a great place to visit if you are interested in urban planning, murals, modern housing from the twenties and just want to see a part of Lyon that is historical but has few tourists. The buildings were created by Tony Garnier almost 100 years ago and when the neighborhood fell into decline in the 70s and 80s each building was decorated with full side murals that illustrate Garnier's work on urban planning. It is a beautiful place to walk around. There is a museum too and a model apartment that we could not visit because they are closed on Sunday

We only overheard other walkers talking about this as we were walking down from Fourvière hill, I don't recollect it being mentioned in the tourist literature. Honestly, it looks pretty run down and not maintained but maybe April was before the tourist season. According to Wikipedia, "This small dead-end dates from the 14th century, it has the oldest wooden balconies in Lyon. It is named after Étienne Turquet, who obtained from François I the privilege of making silk in Lyon."
