What travellers are saying
- The Weak Knee TravelerSingapore, Singapore12,712 contributionsThis footbridge stood out amongst the other bridges due to its colour and design. The views on both side of the bridge are nice as well. Great spot for photos.Written December 28, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dimitris LSydney, Australia54,394 contributionsPont Raymond Barre is a fairly new bridge constructed only a few years ago and named after a former mayor of Lyon. It is only used by light transport like trams and cycles as well as pedestrians. It is best seen from the Musee des Confluences and that is from where we took most of our photos of the bridge.Written August 7, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - permiaIreland68,059 contributionsLovely over the Saône River it was inaugurated in 1853. With admirable design it has provided pedestrian only crossings since, with only a brief interruption during WW II when it was destroyed.
However it was faithfully restored. In 2003 it was renamed to honour the priest Paul Couturier who did much to foster interfaith dialogues until he died in 1953.Written December 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But the views of the buildings along are banks of the river is beautiful especially at night. Recommended to take a stroll on the bridge at night.Written December 28, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Terry MHamilton, Canada4,924 contributionsA delightful pedestrian bridge, it is unmistakable for is red colour. Crossing toward the Vieux Lyon will land you near the Church of St George. The passerelle is certainly photograph-worthy in its own right but it is also a good spot to photograph both the lower and upper levels of the historic sector of Lyon.Written November 19, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dimitris LSydney, Australia54,394 contributionsQuite an interesting bridge but not too different from many others. Walked across it a couple of times and got some lovely views of the surrounds. Then again you could get similar views from elsewhere. Worth walking across if you are in the area, otherwise keep going!Written August 9, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alexander WBishops Stortford, UK1,207 contributionsUseful bridge to take you from Vieux Lyon to Place Bellecour.
There’s also a nice view of the Passerelle du Palais de Justice, which is probably best viewed from a distance.Written February 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Finally a couple of minutes without the roaring traffic of a busy city.Written January 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. At that time a bridge was constructed but it was badly damaged some time later. The bridge was rebuilt a couple more times but it fared no better! Finally another bridge was constructed some time during the 18th century but that too was damaged. However after being properly repaired it managed to survive to this day! Just remember its past when you are walking over it!Written August 9, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dimitris LSydney, Australia54,394 contributionsPont Lafayette is one of the many bridges crossing the river Rhone. It's for both cars and pedestrians. You could get some good views from the middle but you need to watch out for the traffic.Written August 10, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dimitris LSydney, Australia54,394 contributionsPont Winston Churchill was named, obviously in honour of that British politician! However the site where the present bridge stands has quite a long history, going back to the mid-nineteenth century. In fact several bridges were built over time, but none lasted very long, for various reasons. The present bridge was constructed in the 1980s. It connects the two banks of the Rhone River and it's really for vehicular traffic which seems to get quite busy much of the time. If you get half way up on the bridge walkway, you can get some decent views over the surrounding area.Written August 11, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
