What travellers are saying
- Randy SStansbury Park, UT72 contributionsThe Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon is one of the most impressive art museums I've ever visited. Housed in a stunning 17th-century building, this museum is a true treasure trove of art, showcasing works from ancient times to modern masterpieces. It’s a must-visit for art lovers and anyone who appreciates history and culture.
The museum's collection is incredibly diverse, featuring a wide range of works from renowned artists such as Picasso, Rembrandt, Monet, and more. The galleries are thoughtfully arranged, allowing you to explore different periods and styles of art at your own pace. The Egyptian antiquities section is particularly fascinating, offering a glimpse into the ancient world with beautifully preserved artifacts.
What I love most about the Musée des Beaux-Arts is how immersive the experience is. The museum doesn't just display art; it invites you to truly engage with it. The peaceful ambiance and well-curated exhibits allow you to take your time and appreciate the details of each piece. The architecture of the building itself adds to the charm, with its grand spaces and airy courtyards.
Whether you're a seasoned art enthusiast or someone simply looking to explore Lyon’s cultural scene, the Musée des Beaux-Arts is a highlight that should not be missed. It’s an enriching experience that offers both artistic beauty and historical depth, leaving a lasting impression long after you leave.Written January 14, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - L-SKY3 contributionsThe perfect cross between a haunted house and a traditional escape game. We did Amy 2, and screamed our lungs out. - 391MartaLyon, France31 contributionsA small art gallery, yet immense in terms of taste and quality. Céline Moine and Laurent Giros will make you discover a fantastic selection of artists and share with you their amazing love for art, which emerges in their accurate knowledge of each detail concerning the pictures they exhibit. Each show is crafted with extreme care, sensitivity, and elegance. A unique place to breath beauty right in the heart of Lyon.Written December 13, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KTGPAdelaide, Australia5,865 contributionsThe square is named for Louis Pradel, Mayor of Lyon from 1957 to 1976. Place Louis Pradel has the Opéra National de Lyon running along one side and Hôtel de Ville almost backs on to it, with Place de la Comédie separating them a little. The entrance for metro Hôtel de Ville/ Louis Pradel is off the square.
Popular for skateboarders who refer to it as HDV, (Hôtel de Ville) it is great they have somewhere to skate and they were mindful of people walking through. At the same time, it is a shame the square is badly damaged through skating, with some of the bases of sculptures having chunks missing of them, chipped steps and paving.
The square forms part of the former Rue Puits Gaillot, many of the buildings were destroyed to make way for the new area. The underground car park was inaugurated in 1980, with work getting underway on the square in 1982. A couple of water features in the square but they weren’t in operation early April.
Several sculptures in the square -
'Le Soleil’ 1982 by Jean-Robert Ipoustéguy, is a fountain
‘Louise Labbé’ 1982 by Jean-Robert Ipoustéguy. Louise Labbé is accompanied by another poet, Maurice Scève.
‘La Pyramide de l’histoire de Lyon’ 1982 by Jean-Robert Ipoustéguy
‘Le Patineur’ or ‘L'Homme de la Liberté’ 1989 by César Baldaccini. Not strictly in Place Louis Pradel but just around the corner in Place Tolozan.
The square is located just behind Place des Terreaux. The skaters provide entertainment and are fun to watch, so it maybe a good opportunity for families with restless children to pop over and have a look.Written August 14, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is great for relaxing and de-stressing after work and/or sports activities. Aurelie adapts her technique and pressure perfectly according to needs and preferences. Highly recommended! - lovetotravelUSA278 contributionsMost restaurants in Lyon offer only wine and beer, along with the occasional whiskey.
Here you will find a wizard who uses herbs, a torch to singe the lemon peel for a martini, and my favorite - the caliente Tequila made especially for me.
Prices are reasonable and the drinks phenomenal.Written September 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
