I visited this cathedral with my family during a weekday. As soon as we stepped out of the train station, the cathedral was visibly right in front. We took advantage of the location and crossed the bridge to the other side of the river to reach a viewpoint. For a modest fee, we enjoyed breathtaking views of the entire city. what a sight!!

The Museum is quite interesting and unique. The sustainability part is particularly educational. But the staff are unhelpful and even rude.

We had a great time at the Ludwig Museum in Cologne. It's a wonderful place to see some of the most amazing works of modern art. We especially enjoyed the paintings by Picasso, Warhol and Lichtenstein. The museum is very spacious and well-organized, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The audio guide was very informative and easy to use. I learned a lot about the history and context of the artworks. The museum also has a nice cafe and a gift shop where you can buy some souvenirs. I would definitely recommend the Ludwig Museum to anyone who loves modern art. However, if you are not into this kind of art, you might find it boring or confusing. It's not a museum for everyone, but for those who appreciate it, it's a fantastic experience.

This is the main bridge by train into Cologne Central Station and leads from one side of the river to the other. It is also how you can get to Cologne Triangle. The pedestrian walkway is filler with padlocks, amazing how many there are. I even saw a man at the start selling them, not sure if he was writing names on too. The walk over is lovely and gives a great view of the river and looking back to the old town.
On the other side there are a few places to eat and drink and you are also able to walk along this side of the river.

This documentation shows in great detail the deep Nazi roots of the city of Cologne and its surrounding area.

Most shocking for us were the personal stories of Nazi functionaries at all levels and areas who lived unscathed after the end of WW2 for many decades as "honorable" members of society. But why did we expect otherwise?

Well worth nothing were the farcical efforts of the Nazi-infected postwar German judiciary. As one example out of many - somebody killed hundreds of Jews and got just a few years of prison (sometimes with an early release due to "good conduct"). Contrast this to the military justice of the allies in the same place - for killing one prisoner of war the German perpetrator would be condemned to death and surely executed.

Another important aspect is the almost universal complicity of Cologne's Catholic Church, including the Cardinal Archbishop (who stayed in his post for decades after the war and is still highly thought of). This, however, doesn't matter much as the Catholic Church in Germany has in the meantime self-destroyed and is in terminal decline.

Hats off to the honest - and then courageous - people who demanded that this property that had been the Gestapo's HQs and jail - be preserved and converted into an education and remembrance site.

Finally, one suggestion - there are tons of tightly written documents to read, often in very small print or even handwriting. Wouldn't it be possible to have the entire documentation online?

I had heard about Cologne Triangle on Tripadvisor and so headed for a lovely walk over, arriving about 5pm. Which seemed like a great time to see the sun setting and the light changing over Cologne.
It was as to find once you walk over the bridge, just keep following the path and there is a sign. You pay €5 and get a ticket to scan to let you through. It is sign posted all the way to the lifts and to the observation deck. It was a Friday evening when I went and so wasn't too busy up there on the 28 floor plus a few more steps!
The views are amazing and you get a total 360 view of Old Cologne with the Dom and the newer and more industrial side. All along the glass walls are drawings telling you what buildings you are looking at. I spent a good hour up there. A must do in Cologne.

After the disappointment of the contemporary art museum in Dusseldorf, I really enjoyed the art on show here.

Located in the centre of town, the museum is set over a number of floors though the too floor was closed during our visit. Admission fee was relatively low and plenty of different pieces of art to see as you wander.

Good day, i paid 23 euro, 11 for my 11 year old. Lots of animals and as it was raining and late October the zoo wasn’t busy which was great.

My daughter loved it as lots of indoor bits to explore.

Only slight problem was the lack of concessions open but it was raining and late october.

Small, understated botanical garden. Some items of interest, but unfortunately the glass houses are closed for rebuilding. But very good to get a break from the business of Cologne, to sit in the sun and eat at the open air cafe

The Alstadt is a vibrant part of town full of local culture . You would be hard pressed to miss it if visiting the area and we happened to pass through during Karnevale when the whole city took to the streets.

This is a must see if you like wonderful old buildings. A fascinating history, ground plan, beautiful architecture and too many interesting things for me to tell you, so just go. Useful booklets and postcards available. Don't miss the ancient mosaics of Samson in the atmospheric crypt. Very helpful guide was there when we visited. Check opening times.
