- jameseogradyNorwich, UK20 contributionsMonumental monument of impressive scale. The statue of the knight at the door is 60 feet high. Inside are interesting artifacts and more huge statues. A panoramic view from the top.Written March 23, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ceslyn23 contributionsWe had been told this was a good zoo to visit and we weren't disappointed.
We arrived early so we had the whole day to enjoy, so we could take it easy.
All the areas seem well thought out, and a lot of translations into English to help us. The enclosures seemed spacious and well considered, also mixwd animals who are used to living together in the wild, to give diversity.
Feeding times are posted, which does give a better time to see the animals, as otherwise, they can do their thing. My husband particularly appreciated the coati, having seen it as a child in a different zoo.
We particularly enjoyed the water tour through Gondwanaland, and as a tropical area, it wasn't too oppresive, as they sometimes can be. Steps and suspension bridges also mean this area needs a degree of fitness to fully appreciate, and don't have a fear of heights!
The elephants were a joy. we caught them having a dip in the pool and obviously having fun.
There are many food outlets around the site, and although the central area got busy around lunchtime as there is a kids play area there as well, there are other options and we ate well without waiting for more than a couple of minutes. I also found out later that this was a school holiday in the area, but still , it wasn't over-run.
I would recommend this to anyone, with a family or just as a couple, to go and have a good walk and appreciate some animals in a supportive environment. Avoid teh gift shop, nothing of note in there.Written November 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RodgerOldFart1939Billings, MT75 contributionsI actually visited the Thomaskirche twice on my recent visit to Leipzig. The first was strictly a photo tour and exploration. The second was to attend a Motet for an Organ Concert. I speak and understand enough German to follow the words of the Pastor, which were thankfully brief. The church was heavily damaged by the very late war bombing of Leipzig by the RAF, but the church has been rebuilt and carefully restored to it's current beautiful condition.
There's an excellent display of period musical instruments, along with many original documents pertaining to JS Bach and his appointment as the Royal Composer to the Elector of Saxony.
I was raised in a Lutheran family, and felt quite comfortable in those surroundings.Written October 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nikki SAuckland, New Zealand31 contributionsA must visit in Leipzig .
A beautiful church with so much history, dating back to 1150. One of the biggest churches in Saxony .
This is such an important part of Leipzig’s history . It’s was the second church for Bach where he played the organ, Martin Luther spoke there and it became famous in 1989 with the Monday Demonstrations when it became the centre of peaceful revolt against communist rule.
An important part of history that is beautiful and well worth a visit and to light a candle for peace and loved ones .Written October 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The personal testimonials are moving and thought-provoking. We stayed for 4 hours! Free of charge to enter and free audio guide in ENG (and other languages). If there is only one thing you do in Leipzig, go to this fascinating museum.Written February 21, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Di & ScottSaint-Cyprien, France405 contributionsThe Stassi were masters of spying on their own people. Good audio tour explaining the methods used, and the loyal employees & informants who ratted out their own family & friends. We got a little lost knowing which room to go to next. Better signage though out would help.Written September 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Hannes L1 contributionThe Panometer Leipzig with the art of Asisi is maybe not the must-see in Leipzig, but it is worth to take a look at it. The guides are very ambitious, funny and they have a great knowledge with no fear to answer all of your questions. Represented is a moment 5 minutes before the attack on 9/11. It is not the typical Asisi with many ester eggs and details, but it is not less impressive combined with the feeling of fear. If your are interested in the history of 9/11 and the rat tail of the war against terrorism, I would highly recommend you to visit the Panometer at least once.Written September 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Atlas AdventuredOrange County, CA575 contributionsThe family at AtlasAdventured highly recommends visiting here!
We arrived around 5:00 pm, which is the perfect time to see all the twinkling Christmas lights and to try the food! The Christmas Market is pretty big, spread across a few streets. The ferris wheel is huge and the star of the show. It was easy to walk and the street was lined with shops, also all decorated for the season. Here we tried the Handbrot - a ham (or bacon) stuffed cheesy bread, topped with sour cream. It was delicious. I thought the sour cream on top would be too much, but the tangy-ness of it cut through the richness of the filling. We washed it down with some hot kirsch punch and our daughter had a kids white hot chocolate, both delicious! We shopped through the stalls and let our daughter go on a ride. All of the rides were cute and kid friendly. To walk around the whole thing you probably need about 2-3 hours if you would like to take your time. There was a really cute fairy tale section of the market that was set up with a bunch of scenes from all of the tales, and plenty of cute photo opportunities. Great for kids and parents to stroll though! (Oh, and free)
The highlight of this market (for us), was the waffle. A thin and crispy waffle stuffed with vanilla cream. While looking at the huge bowl of cream, it appeared thick, almost like frosting. But when we bit into it, it was so light and airy and tasted like marshmallows without being too sweet. It was so good! If you are ever in the area during this time, I highly recommend visiting this Christmas Market!Written December 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
