What travellers are saying
- ElsieF499London, UK81 contributionsThe Alhambra is outstanding. The Nasrid palaces in particular are so impressive, with room after room intricately carved and decorated, complemented by beautiful water features. I visited on a wet February day and despite the weather I had a wonderful half day here - I can only imagine how stunning it would be on a sunny spring day when the gardens are in full bloom.
I bought a ticket direct from the official website, 19 euros. You have to book a time slot for the Nazrid palaces, I had 9am. As the site only opens at 8.30 that meant going straight there. If you have a later time slot you can explore the other sites beforehand - I think most people go to the Alcazaba first then Nasrid Palaces, then Generalife.
I got the bus there 30 or 32 from Plaza Isabel Catholica, a single is €1.60, pay the driver cash or card. The buses are mini buses and it is mostly standing which is fine for the 10 min journey up the steep hill. Save the walking for the way down.
Remember to bring your passport - you have to give your details when booking a ticket and they scan your passport at various ticket control points, it effectively acts as your ticket. You can only enter each of the three main zones (Alcazaba, Nasrid Palaces, Generalife) once.
They no longer hire out audio guides. I had tried to download the one they sent the link for alongside the tickets but got and error saying it wasn’t available in my country (because I have a UK sim even though I was in Spain at the time). However once on site I was able to scan the QR code and download the DaVinci app which loaded the Alhambra guide for free. There was also a QR code for free Wi-Fi which I didn’t use. The audio guide was good once I got used to using it. However the almost constant use of the screen and GPS did drain my battery and I had to start rationing it’s use towards the end. Bring a battery pack of you have one.
Food and drink choices on the site are limited. The official food and drink places signposted on the map are just vending machines outside the toilets. There are some shops selling snacks, sandwiches and ice creams as well as souvenirs, and there is an outdoor coffee bar outside the Alcazaba which was a much needed warm pick me up during the worst of the rain. The only place to get a sit down meal is the Parador which has a high quality restaurant. It opens at 11.30. I had a coffee and cake, the cake was delicious.Written February 4, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We got a good history lesson and more beautiful views of the Alhambra.
It was fun to meander past beautiful homes. You need good walking shoes.
Definitely worth a visit and if you enjoy staying away from the touristy sights, this is perfection. Give at least two hours for this place. If you are going to stop for a coffee and watch the world go by, give yourself three hours.Written September 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Isabella and Ferdinand united Spain by defeating the last holdout of the Moors. Juana was the father of Charles V, who was Spain’s most powerful king. Granada was the capital of Spain until Charles’ son, Philip II, moved it to Madrid.
The tombs are exquisite, with the carvings, and you can take stairs below the tombs to see the coffins. This felt like a very spiritual place and while we were there everyone was extremely respectful and quiet.
Biggest downside was no photos. Admission was six euros. Very short line to enter on a Wednesday afternoon in November. You can buy tickets online, in advance, but there didn’t seem to be a separate line for online tickets.

- angela_wroemanchester157 contributionsA sunny December day walking around the old town of Granada and taking in the beautiful architecture in the old town. The Cathedral is breathtaking and the tiny streets leading off from the square are full of character . - travelbunnyLondon, UK34 contributionsWe went to see the Alhambra and Nasdrid Palaces in a tour with a group of 10 which we booked in advance with GetYourGuide, it was definitely a good idea to do so. We selected the 9am slot so the weather was just perfect for the 3 hour tour, the history was unbelievable and the views were absolutely breathtaking, l'd definitely recommend doing this tour which also includes the General Life. Such a beautiful place with rich history to visit when in Granada!Written September 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WikumjRedhill, UK433 contributionsEven as a tourist who is not from Granada, we really enjoyed this science museum which we visited as we had an extra day to kill in Granda and had seen most of the other tourist sites. It is a truly enormous complex, one of the largest science museums we have been to, and has lots of different zones covering for example, the human body, space, biology and wildlife etc (with live animals like monkeys in the rainforest-like biodome). There was also a very impressive taxidermy section with very realistic stuffed animals. There are also outdoor areas, a garden, butterfly exhibit and tower with views over the city. What is impressive about the exhibits is they cater to different ages; interesting to both younger and older children and adults, with lots to learn and lots of interactivity. The signs have the right level of detail; in both Spanish and English. The planetarium was just in Spanish so we skipped that.Written November 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ryan SCardiff, UK1,123 contributionsThe Carrera del Darro stretches along the bottom of the Alhambra which boasts grand views of its walls and many towers. The street also has many historic buildings along it as well as a picturesque stream. The street starts from the palace square and can lead you to Sacromonte, a picturesque nieghnourhood full of pretty white cave houses.Written October 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WikumjRedhill, UK433 contributionsWow the artwork, sculpture and overall atmosphere in this church are spectacular to behold, this was among the most impressive art we saw during our stay in Granada, particularly the main altar and the sculpted ceilings. Tickets were a bit on the pricey side for what is a short visit, but worth it I think. The audio guide like many in Granada was a bit too long and detailed.Written November 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WikumjRedhill, UK433 contributionsBustling market stalls near the Cathedral geared towards tourists. Worth dropping by, though many of the markets sell the same goods or types of goods so if you've been to one you've been to most of them. Quality of the goods is variable and clearly aimed at tourists.Written November 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
