- nw05250London, UK468 contributionsGo now. Stunning. Smaller and more intimate than the Palazzo Ducale making it easier to get everything in. But for the 3 groups of school children on a tour the rooms were basically empty making for comfortable viewing of the many great art pieces on offer.Written October 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - linskitoursHarpenden, UK588 contributionsWe went in just in time to see this fine church dressed for a wedding. We had to leave for it after about 20 minutes. My wife, a kern and very able flower arranger, really enjoyed the visit chatting to the team who had created superb floral displays down each side of the aisle. The final bonus was the organist rehearsing as we were ushered out.Written October 14, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A small theatre that is a hall with wooden boxes and a balcony with boxes-- considered one of the most significant European, architectural creations of its time (18th C.).

Many exhibits that are well presented including models, helmets, helicopters and a huge range of historic fire appliances (some restored). We looked in on a Monday when closed but we’re welcomed by one of the enthusiastic volunteers (former fire fighter). A must for fire fighting enthusiasts but also of general interest.Written May 16, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DamCar6599 contributionsMy main reason for visiting Mantua was chiefly because Giuseppe Sarto was bishop here (1884-1893) before becoming Pope St Pius X, in 1903. Alas, I was disappointed, since his cathedral church only has a very simple altar in his honour. Never the less, the Cathedral is still worth visiting. The current building is of the 11th century (built after the previous building burnt down and excavations show that this was a Christian religious site dating back to the early christians). The numerous modifications it has undergone take away any preset stylistic unity. Very much a mixed bag of Baroque, Romanesque and Gothic. However it is still an imposing building with an enormous amount of frescos. You could spend hours just examining them all. Several members of the Gonzaga family are buried here. Other historical artefacts can be found, with a 4th century sarcophagus being the oldest. The Blessed Sacrament chapel (to the left of the main altar) is also very beautiful and very peaceful.Written February 2, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gambin_OriginalZurich, Switzerland79 contributionsThe open character of this church, just next to the Castello di San Giorgi, makes it a nice prologue to the Castello visit; just go walk and see, you'll see also some of the marks the earthquake 2012 has left on the church.Written May 29, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
