I had the most wonderful experience at this incredible Jewelry store. I came in to get a modification made to a very special charm that means a lot to me. This is not “worthwhile” work for the store as it is fine work and will not make them much money. But instead of turning me away like everyone else, out of the goodness of their hearts they made the attachment and now I can wear the charm around my neck. While I was there waiting I was able to chat to the owners and learn about this history of the store. Its so incredible and special, and at risk of being lost. As a commumnity of travelers coming to these store owners homes in Venice, it’s important that we spend money at this store to help protect and preserve the history, knowledge and craft of jewelry making that they learnt from their grandfather, Jovon who opened the store in 1934. This is more than shopping, its political and it’s helping preserve Italian history. I work in Agriculture and see the same risk of lost knowledge if customers are not willing to vote with their dollar. We are also losing a culture of stone milled flour, and like this jewelry shop it is more important than ever to support hand made artisan products that are authenticated by tradition. If not, we, all of us, all over the world, will lose our sovereignty and be slaves to global companies such as Amazon. Small decisions count. So please when in Venice spend some money on a gift at this shop that will save history and last you a life time. You’ll have a great time in the store too. Incredible experience, thanks guys xxx

We were very happy to get here a bit early in the day but by mid- morning the crowds were building. The market is so much fun - so many things to look at and not just food. Don't stop at the market though -the area is full of interesting alley ways (some very narrow) and shops. We did not attempt to go on to the Rialto bridge- too much humanity there to be able to see anything let alone take a photo! Recommend getting there the earliest you can in the day

We’ve been coming to the architecture Biennale for a while, and decided to try the Art version this year. I can’t say we liked much (if any) of the art; we are not contemporary art fans, as a rule. But, the organization and representation is still impressive and comprehensive.

Unlike the architect event, which mainly draws academics and architects, the art event also draws a LOT of mainstream tourists. Thus, the crowds are larger and the ability to move around more difficult. Since many of the Art events are also experiential, there is also a lot of standing around and trying make you way through crowds. So, I would recommend you go early and try to pre-plan at what points you will need to make breaks.

Throngs at food lines are also not a lot of fun, so if you plan on eating at the biennale, eat at off times, or at the small cafes nearer the periphery of the main halls. Getting tickets in advance for the event was not necessary for us, as we only had one day to go. But if you plan on spending more time there, consider on of the multi-day package tickets, which can be purchased in advance.

We found Monica and her wonderful work when visiting the ex Convent SS. Cosma e Damiano on La Giudecca. If you haven't been, please do go! We bought some wonderful presents, and our friend bought us 2 of Monica's prints that we were admiring (and which are now at our local framers!) Monica is a fascinating and inspiring artist, and was so kind and patient showing us her studio. If you read this review, please do visit her: you will not regret it! Thank you Monica - we will see you again!

While on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore to visit the church, and the Ai Weiwei art exhibition, we stopped at Le Stanze del Vetro to see their Venini Light 1921-1985 exhibition of glass designed for home and commercial use. Interesting to see how the design evolved over the decades. Several stunning pieces made this worth stopping to see!

This is a gorgeous little gallery, not far from Santo Stefano square.
You can easily spend an hour in the gallery admiring the quirky exhibits.

We found this small shop by chance and went in because my son was enamored with a family of miniature glass pigeons displayed in the window. Moments after we purchased the treasured pigeons, the artisan began to make new ones! We stayed to watch for a short while and were enthralled with how effortlessly and skillfully he creates his wares. Truly a highlight of our short trip to Venice!
