There is a small shop that makes shoes with only a day or two notice and has display shoes on sale at the shop. The shop specializes in native shoes, booties, and boots. We bought a few pairs of shoes and had we known about the shop earlier we would have selected custom made shoes. These are quality shoes that are well below the cost of better shoes in America. The shop is "Chaski", Native Shoes. Santo Domingo 250 Cercado. It is near the hotel where we stayed and walking distane from the downtown square.

We visited 5 artisan workshops (leather; goldsmith/jewelry; paper marbleizing; printmaking & mosaics) adding in the mosaic stop so we could visit this unique workshop. The bus left me behind even though I arrived 10 minutes earlier, then had to use a taxi. However when I got there; the range of clothes was not satisfactory. I have been to a lot of shopping outlets before (Australia, New York, etc), this one was by far the most disappointing with regard to range of items to buy. - Bellismo!3 contributionsEverything,,,,!! Our guide was the most knowledgeable, gracious, and lovely guide ever. She took us to the places that were our most treasured memories! Not only that, but because of the time of the year it was, February, we had her all to ourselves!. Our three tours were spot on, and the artisans were both knowledgeable and gracious hosts. We I am sure received the best of the best getting to know the craftsmen and the lovely owners of each shop we visited!
