There is a small shop that makes shoes with only a day or two notice and has display shoes on sale at the shop. The shop specializes in native shoes, booties, and boots. We bought a few pairs of shoes and had we known about the shop earlier we would have selected custom made shoes. These are quality shoes that are well below the cost of better shoes in America. The shop is "Chaski", Native Shoes. Santo Domingo 250 Cercado. It is near the hotel where we stayed and walking distane from the downtown square.

Didn't know what I wanted to get but they helped formulate it into something that captulated our holiday. His prices are very fair considering the quality of his service. The car is well maintained, clean, and comfortable. The bus left me behind even though I arrived 10 minutes earlier, then had to use a taxi. However when I got there; the range of clothes was not satisfactory. I have been to a lot of shopping outlets before (Australia, New York, etc), this one was by far the most disappointing with regard to range of items to buy.
