The view from the top is incredible. 360 degree view of Florence, the adjacent valleys, and all mountains. We made it to the top just before dusk. We were disappointed that the good light didn't last longer. As the city lights came on and basilicas and other large structures were illuminated, we were no longer disappointed. DEFINITELY buy your ticket early (would recommend at least several days in advance during the summer).

This basilica is a beautiful building, jam-packed with history and beautiful art works. We were very lucky to meet up with Dan, whom we had met back in London last year. He is passionate about Florence and knows the history of Santa Croce inside out. He gave us a fantastic guided tour which made all the difference. The best visit of our Florence stay! danharperflorence@gmail.com

Lots to see and lots of stairs to climb but worth a visit. You can go inside the first floor without paying but we decided to pay to see more.

Every time I'm in Firenze, I come here, often for a solitary stroll to the top of the monte to take the morning air. From here, you can see eternity.

We went after booking tickets online, but you can probably just pay at the door as there is not a queue at this Museum. It's not open every day so best check beforehand There's a stunning medieval courtyard and a series of rooms with all kinds of collections. Unfortunately after about 2 hours we were exhausted and tired, there is not place to sit in any of the rooms. The only seating area is in the courtyard and that's very limited, so it's hard to take a breather, recharge then continue. The Michelangelo Room is closed at present.

What an interesting, free outdoor exhibition area showing some remarkable sculptures, many dating back to the 16th century. I didn't study each statue, but there was more than enough violence depicted in the ones I did spend some time studying - decapitation & rape for example. You have Perseus finishing off Medusa and the rape of the Sabine women, for example.

I was just fascinated that this is all in just one corner of the Piazza della Signoria adjoining the world famous Uffizi Gallery.

And you cam enjoy tis fabulous Renaissance artwork without paying any entrance fees or waiting in any queues. Wonderful!

Our family was making a slow walking tour around Florence, simply following our noses and, to a certain extent, following the crowds. Eventually we came to this main square and the first thing that hit us was the 8 sided Baptistry of Saint John. To be honest, I thought that it looked rather artificial and I was genuinely wondering whether it had been draped in one great, ornate covering to hide building/restoration work just behind. But no, the white marble of this impressive building has been decorated just so. Incredible.

We didn't go into this building.

This church is a hidden gem in Florence and admission is free. It’s easy to overlook this basilica because of its ordinary facade and the plainness of the piazza where it is located. The Baroque interior is simply spectacular, especially the temple, the numerous side chapels, the altar / Rotonda, and the ceiling throughout. My daughter, who was studying abroad, wants to get married here. We can’t wait to return to this truly special place.

Villa was absolutely stunning. So much history there... Medici, Vittorio Emanuele... Beautiful garden. We followed timeline on their website and it was accurate. Just the guide didn't speak English, but there are explanations in every room and additional materials we could that thay gave us, so we could follow the visit. Also some audio guide trough QR code. And surprisingly, visit was free.

The Arnolfo Tower is part of the Palazzo Vecchio compound at Piazza della Signoria. It is 95 metres tall and dates back to the Middle Ages. You can see it quite well from various locations around the city due to his height. Visitors can climb the 460+ steps up the tower to the platform area from which you are afforded 360 degree views of the city. Tickets can be purchased as part of your visit to Palazzo Vecchio or separately.

Stunning area with all the buildings. It was surprisingly crowded in January. Lots of lines of people waiting to enter the various buildings. Very walkable area.

Sant' Apollonia is a 14th-century former Benedictine monastery located along Via Ventisette Aprile and just a couple minutes walk from Piazza San Marco.

Today, you will find a small museum here with some fine artwork and frescos including 'The Last Supper' a masterpiece by Andrea del Castagno (1447) along with other early Italian Renaissance artists. The Last Supper is remarkable and interestingly predates Da Vinci's last Supper in Milan by nearly 50 years.

Opening hours are 8.15pm to 1.50pm daily and entry is free. Definitely worth popping in for a quick visit if you plan to explore this area of the city centre and enjoy viewing fine artworks.

The Pazzi Chapel is located at the cloister grounds within the Basilica di Santa Croce compound. It is believed to be the work of Filippo Brunelleschi and is considered a Renaissance architectural masterpiece. The interior is open and empty compared to elaborate chapels found elsewhere in the church. The walls and ceiling has lovely terracotta bas-reliefs by Luca della Robbia. Worth a look-see while exploring the Santa Croce church grounds.
