What travellers are saying
- futtock21London, UK17,143 contributionsThe Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fuore in Florence is said according to the Florentine guide books to be the third largest cathedral in the world. This is a distinction it shares according to the Milanese guide books with Milan’s Duomo.Written August 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - andyh67186334Coalville, UK10,862 contributionsLike many major attractions in Florence it is best to visit vey early in the morning or late at night to avoid huge crowds, and Piazza della Signora was no exception. The piazza is surrounded by shops and restaurants with an impressive fountain, sculpture and the Museo di Palazzo Vecchio. It's a great place to unwind when it's quiet as there's so much to marvel at, not so when it heaving with tourists.Written September 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BradHong Kong, China174,739 contributionsThe Historic Centre of Florence is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1982). It straddles the Arno River and includes numerous public squares and cobblestone streets lined with historic palaces, churches, museums, loggias filled with sculptures as well as hotels, retail shops and endless places to have a coffee, cornetto, gelato, panini or enjoyable sit down meal. Visitors can spend several days enjoying the beautiful Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings and architecture as well as the world class art and sculpture viewing opportunities along with great food and wine in Florence.
Of Europes many popular sightseeing cities, Florence has to be up there with the very best when it comes to beauty and volume of things to do, see and taste. Given it's proximity to Rome and other Italian gems, makes it particularly convenient to include for holiday making in Italy. While some just pass through for a night or two, it would be best to allow 3-4 nights if at all possible. By then, most will have had their fill and be ready to move on. Yet, Florence and Renaissance enthusiasts will easily find stays of up to a week or more reasonable as well. We have been fortunate to have been able to make a handful of 4 night stays in the city over the years and have never managed to complete our sightseeing or dining bucket lists during these visits, always leaving quite a few places for future trips.Written April 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is the work of sculptor Enrico Pazzi (1865) and depicts Dante standing with one foot forward, he is entirely cloaked with wreath around his head with an eagle on the ground and at his side. The statue is atop a pedestal with four lions around the base. It is a nice monument worth a minute or two of your time to view before entering the basilica.Written April 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David RToulouse, France1,428 contributionsQuite a hike from Florence centre but there's regular public transport. The cemetery itself is interesting but the views from around it and below are stunning and well worth the effort of getting here.Written October 31, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HSUK_2011West Haddon, UK599 contributionsRecommend you visit this. It is small and pretty. Was once a place for ‘ladies of the night’ but not now. A few eateries around the square. Recommend the gelataria. Friendly staff. Unlike the restaurant lady who told us ‘we are a restaurant and don’t serve just drinks!’ We ate elsewhere!Written August 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OslodudeOslo, Norway325 contributionsThis is a street not far from Uffizi or Ponte Veccio, or any major tourist attraction in Florence center. The street also has the world famous sandwich restaurants and the best pizza place in Florence! Still quiet at night. We rented an apartment here. Could not have been a better location!Written July 26, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Rebe RColumbia, SC4 contributionsYou don’t have to climb to Piazzale Michelangelo to enjoy Via di San Niccolò. This area gives you a glimpse of modern Firenze life from sidewalk seating. Or enjoy a fresh, made-to-order Panini as you round the curve. Then select a gelato from a creative array of choices at the shop near the public water pipe. Both are reasonably priced and enjoyable treats before you walk through the old gate to begin your steep climb or don’t!Written September 4, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Duchess G68 contributionsA wonderful elegant place to stop for a light snack or coffee and a delicious pastry ..
we had the cake of the day which was sublime and coffee that was just perfect .
Friendly staff , wonderful location ( close to all the top end stores ) and winding little passage ways .
It was just the perfect place to stop for a bit and refuel .Written May 4, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The elegant street with imposing buildings is a nice walk among some of the greatest attractions of Florence, where you can also visit a bunch of fashion shops or drink an excellent coffee in one of its bars.Written October 10, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NH2CALaguna Hills, CA1,219 contributionsI thought I would gab and go the souvenirs.
Everyone needs more than enough postcards, of all types. Some shot glasses, and I even looked through all the little statues and decided the suitcase would be too full if I got them all.Written October 30, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I have a new favorite Nachos plate - I never would’ve guessed it would live in Italy.Written October 19, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ProfessorMoonNew Jersey247 contributionsA pretty quiet street as far as traffic. Thankfully, our hotel was one block off of Via San Gallo. Then a straight run into the historic area of Florence. We still managed to get disoriented in our directions, but recovered within a block usually.
Lots of shops and eateries to see.Written November 13, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. L'Arco di Trionfo seats majestically in the middle of the square surrounded by not so beautiful gardens and beautiful fountains that seems not to work very often (pity). For sure a place where to sit to rest!Written September 12, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
