This gallery was the main reason we visited Florence on a day trip from Rome, although the whole town is lovely of course.
We pre booked tickets and once we understood the queuing system for the timed tickets, entrance was quite smooth (considering the volume of people).
The palace is beautiful and as with other museums in Italy, there are gorgeous art works on the ceiling as well as the walls. I particularly went to see the Botticellis, but there were lots of other fabulous art works. In the end my absolute favourite was the Artemisia Gentieschi painting of Judith beheading Holifernes. A violent scene but very impressive in real life.
There is a lovely terrace and cafe too with a view of the dome of the basilica.

So glad we got to experience this. Didn’t appreciate how colossal Michelango’s David truly is. Well worth the visit as so much to appreciate

We reserved entrance and arrived 845am. With electronic tickets downloaded to my cell phone there was no need to go to the ticketing office. Note that if you reserve but don’t have your tickets with codes (QR & bar code) saved to your phone or printed on paper, then you must wait in ticketing line. Was great to be so early as there were few visitors. A number of rooms and exhibits were closed but there was still much to see. Sadly this has been a very hot spell in Florence. Some rooms had okay air conditioning and my kids could cool off by standing close to the units for a few minutes (the staff sit right beside the AC floor units all day!). But many rooms had no AC or so little that it felt like nothing. And the common areas such as corridors and stairwells without exhibits had no AC were almost unbearably hot. At 9am. For context: we are not people who like really cold buildings, we don’t have AC in our home. So in sum I’d recommend in hot months to go early morning with reservations.

I'd been to Florence many times before, but never knew this museum existed. I always wondered why the inside of the Duomo was so barren and that is because they took everything out of it and put it in the museum right behind it. There is an interesting collection in here and it was nowhere near as busy as the parts of the Duomo like the line to get inside the main part, the line to do the dome climb, or the line for the Santa Reparata. We had no line here and walked right in. It has several levels and an impressive collection of statues and the gold doors to the baptistery. It is definitely worth a stop.

We went after booking tickets online, but you can probably just pay at the door as there is not a queue at this Museum. It's not open every day so best check beforehand There's a stunning medieval courtyard and a series of rooms with all kinds of collections. Unfortunately after about 2 hours we were exhausted and tired, there is not place to sit in any of the rooms. The only seating area is in the courtyard and that's very limited, so it's hard to take a breather, recharge then continue. The Michelangelo Room is closed at present.

This was another part of the Bargello Museum and is a church inserted into a 14th century granary. It’s a very tall building despite being only three main storeys, although each was about as high as 4 storeys of our house. It has big gothic windows, arcaded ceilings and sculptures of saints on the outside. The ground floor is the church with a stunning floor to ceiling tabernacle housing a painting of the Madonna, all from the mid-14th century. Frescoes on the ceiling and some of the walls, and a marble statue of the Madonna and child sitting in St Anne’s lap. All stunning and more interesting than the inside of the Duomo. To get to the upper floors you cross the alley outside and go up the stairs in the building opposite. Four large flights take you to a bridge across to the main building. The bridge is open with good views, and the room above the church is the full floor of the building, light and airy with the original sculptures from the outside of the building. The views are good, but then you notice a modern sinuous stair winding up to the floor above. There is then another large light-filled room above with only a few small statues, but with huge windows above the level of the buildings on all sides. There are great views of the Duomo, the Palazzio Vecchio and even of the Palazzio Pitti. You have to be prepared to climb but the combination of the church and the views is unmissable, and hardly any of the people in the crowds passing bother to have a look.

Gallery is inside the palace, several museum with in too see and all are very interesting to see.

Museum is full of renaissance art work, but much more to see than so nice art, lots of statues, furniture and lots of other things to see with in the walls of the palace.

It’s up there in the better museums to see in Florence with out thousands of people.

Found this to be an interesting place to visit. Very relaxed with incredible artwork. You got the feel of the building and the chapel and the ceiling of the Mirror Gallery are unforgettable. Near the Academia gallery where the statue of David is. We were sightseeing after seeing David and this was relaxed and not crowded, a welcome change.

Palazzo Strozzi hosted the Anselm Kiefer / Fallen Angels exhibition during my trip to Florence.

It is a beautiful space, with a dramatic foyer which draws you in completely. The Kiefer exhibition is wonderful, but it ends soon, so get to it if you can. It was beautifully curated and suited the space so well with the huge breath-taking canvases.

It's a special place, get to if you can!

I think this church is worth a visit especially for those interested in history, but it is less grand than most of Florence’s most famous buildings

A taste of modern day art in Florence! A wonderful gallery. Full of fantastic paintings in a space that is both inviting and comfortable. The brothers, Roberto and Rodolfo, are both interesting characters that entertain their guests with Grace and humor! I will definitely be returning to this gallery.

The Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze (lit. 'academy of fine arts of Florence') is an instructional art academy in Florence, in Tuscany, in central Italy.

It was founded by Cosimo I de' Medici in 1563, under the influence of Giorgio Vasari. Michelangelo, Benvenuto Cellini and other significant artists have been associated with it.

Like other state art academies in Italy, it became an autonomous degree-awarding institution under law no. 508 dated 21 December 1999, and falls under the administration of the Ministero dell'Istruzione, dell'UniversitĂ  e della Ricerca, the Italian ministry of education and research.

The adjacent (but unaffiliated) Galleria dell'Accademia houses the original David by Michelangelo.

Our teens love historical war stories and related museum and they thought that this was one of the best museum they has visited for a long time. But you need to be quite informed about the subject to really enjoy the time spent. As a regular vistor it was only an average experience.
