This gallery was the main reason we visited Florence on a day trip from Rome, although the whole town is lovely of course.
We pre booked tickets and once we understood the queuing system for the timed tickets, entrance was quite smooth (considering the volume of people).
The palace is beautiful and as with other museums in Italy, there are gorgeous art works on the ceiling as well as the walls. I particularly went to see the Botticellis, but there were lots of other fabulous art works. In the end my absolute favourite was the Artemisia Gentieschi painting of Judith beheading Holifernes. A violent scene but very impressive in real life.
There is a lovely terrace and cafe too with a view of the dome of the basilica.

The view from the top is incredible. 360 degree view of Florence, the adjacent valleys, and all mountains. We made it to the top just before dusk. We were disappointed that the good light didn't last longer. As the city lights came on and basilicas and other large structures were illuminated, we were no longer disappointed. DEFINITELY buy your ticket early (would recommend at least several days in advance during the summer).

So glad we got to experience this. Didn’t appreciate how colossal Michelango’s David truly is. Well worth the visit as so much to appreciate

Located in the midst of the flea market, the entrance was tucked away behind the facade of stores selling leather goods and jewellery. The market was less than crowded and it was not a challenge to settle down. We tried the beef brisket and the roasted chicken from different vendors, both with a side of potatoes and salad. The brisket was mouthwatering, with a nice char to it. The chicken was juicy and tender. We finished the meal with gelato, an italian staple. Overall the food was delectable and appetising.

This basilica is a beautiful building, jam-packed with history and beautiful art works. We were very lucky to meet up with Dan, whom we had met back in London last year. He is passionate about Florence and knows the history of Santa Croce inside out. He gave us a fantastic guided tour which made all the difference. The best visit of our Florence stay! danharperflorence@gmail.com

Lots to see and lots of stairs to climb but worth a visit. You can go inside the first floor without paying but we decided to pay to see more.

We reserved entrance and arrived 845am. With electronic tickets downloaded to my cell phone there was no need to go to the ticketing office. Note that if you reserve but don’t have your tickets with codes (QR & bar code) saved to your phone or printed on paper, then you must wait in ticketing line. Was great to be so early as there were few visitors. A number of rooms and exhibits were closed but there was still much to see. Sadly this has been a very hot spell in Florence. Some rooms had okay air conditioning and my kids could cool off by standing close to the units for a few minutes (the staff sit right beside the AC floor units all day!). But many rooms had no AC or so little that it felt like nothing. And the common areas such as corridors and stairwells without exhibits had no AC were almost unbearably hot. At 9am. For context: we are not people who like really cold buildings, we don’t have AC in our home. So in sum I’d recommend in hot months to go early morning with reservations.

I'd been to Florence many times before, but never knew this museum existed. I always wondered why the inside of the Duomo was so barren and that is because they took everything out of it and put it in the museum right behind it. There is an interesting collection in here and it was nowhere near as busy as the parts of the Duomo like the line to get inside the main part, the line to do the dome climb, or the line for the Santa Reparata. We had no line here and walked right in. It has several levels and an impressive collection of statues and the gold doors to the baptistery. It is definitely worth a stop.

We went after booking tickets online, but you can probably just pay at the door as there is not a queue at this Museum. It's not open every day so best check beforehand There's a stunning medieval courtyard and a series of rooms with all kinds of collections. Unfortunately after about 2 hours we were exhausted and tired, there is not place to sit in any of the rooms. The only seating area is in the courtyard and that's very limited, so it's hard to take a breather, recharge then continue. The Michelangelo Room is closed at present.

We accessed its crypt from Florence’s tourist information office admiring its medieval frescos then walked up into its vast and impressive nave viewing the many impressive paintings by Renaissance artists before walking through its cloisters into a monastery garden before exiting into Piazza Santa Maria Novella itself.

Visiting this museum is a profound experience, offering a glimpse into Galileo’s monumental impact on our understanding of the cosmos. The exhibits vividly showcase his groundbreaking contributions, from advocating heliocentrism to advancing telescope technology and naming the aurora borealis. This museum is a treasure trove for anyone fascinated by the evolution of scientific thought, and I’m thrilled I had the opportunity to explore it.

Of course, you can't miss the massive armillary sphere crafted by Antonio Santucci. Its intricate design and historical significance are truly brilliant.

    Get in here.

This is a wonderful museum found within the convent section of the Basilica di San Marco at the piazza by the same name. Opening hours are 8.15am to 1.50pm daily (closed on Tuesdays) and entry is now €11 per adult. You can book online in advance or pay at the entrance on the day you intend to visit. We visited around 8.30am recently and found no queue upon arrival.

The convent history dates back to the 12th-century. However, what you see today is much to do with expansion works by Italian architect Michelozzo in the 15th-century. Importantly, the museum is noted for its remarkable collection works by Italian Renaissance Master Fra. Angelico. You'll see numerous highlights including The Annunciation in the upstairs dormitory section of the museum. This is probably one of the most recognisable early Renaissance artworks in the world. There are sections of the museum dedicated to famed preacher Savonarola and a fresco lined outdoor cloister amongst other interesting things to see within Museo San Marco. Best to allow at minimum 1 hour and considerably longer if you are a particular fan of Fra Angelico works.

Note: While the convent and cloister require ticked entry. The church at Basilica di San Marco is free to visit. It can be entered directly through the Baroque style church entrance directly on the square. Given the limited morning opening house, I'd suggest visiting the museum first and the church second.

What a wonderful place. Took so many photos as main chapel is a work of art all by itself. Everything fits together to perfection

The artwork commissioned in this palace is stunning. There were so many talented painters trained by the Medici the whole palace is a feast for your senses. You feel like you are walking through history in their footsteps. It’s so impressive eluding the power of this incredible family. You will have neck ache from viewing the incredible ceilings. Beware it’s very hot no air conditioning! Everyone visits the Euffizi galleries in my opinion the is more amazing and minus the shoulder to shoulder slow moving crowds.
