We spent a wonderful 2 hours at Trebah Garden with our little mini dachshund, Walter, on a gloriously sunny October day.
I can really see why people say this garden has interest all year round, and my wife and I will definitely return to see it in full flower during other seasons. Everything is so well maintained, clean and easy to get around. There are wheelchair accessible routes and still plenty to see if you can't take the steps.
The views are incredible and the gunnera are really something else, even after succumbing to autumn storms!
The biggest deal for us, I have to say, was how dog-friendly but also safe it is. Our pup is a nervous boy and quite reactive, so this was a big deal and a gamble bringing him. He is quite calm when other dogs are leaded but that's rare in most places. Here, the policy is that your dog is on a short lead and under control. Granted, you will always get the odd person who decides the rules don't apply to them, but we didn't have this trouble for the first time ever. It is a large enough space with enough paths for us to nip out the way of an oncoming dog, but was also quiet so we didn't pass many people at all. We were able to enjoy taking him to a paid-for public location without being as anxious as him. I also would have felt more confident there asking someone to lead their dog thanks to the rules which are very politely signposted at the entrance. We were even able to do the beach with him which felt like we'd stumbled upon some little cove on New England.
Another bonus for us was the vegan ice cream range available at the beach! There were 4 different flavors and it was so nice not to just be presented with a mango sorbet! Mint chocolate chip was a great addition to the sunny stop!
Super friendly staff who were great about our little dog too, lovely gift shop and an all round fab trip means we can't wait to visit again when we are next holidaying this way. Thanks for making our trip a pleasure and letting our little boy relax.
