Old town Faro is a quaint area of cobbled streets with a mixture of buildings and plenty to see and do. I was struck by the contrast of some of the run down houses and the opulence of the many churches. If you like Baroque style you'll love this place. Wear flat shoes though, heels and cobbles are not a good mix

The Church was so beautiful, probably one of the most beautiful ones I have ever visited. Bear in mind, it cost 2 euros to visit but its worth it.

A truly beautiful beach and not too far from the ferry dock. The beach is beautiful white sand and the water is quite clear.. although quite cool at the end of September. Beach bar was great and very friendly service.. the only thing was there wasn’t that many public toilets so there seemed to be a scramble (and queue) when everyone decided it was time to head back to catch the ferry.. luckily the ferry has toilets onboard if you can’t wait for one on the island.

A long, beautiful beach with plenty of snack bars, cafes and Restaurants nearby. Great for soaking up the sun but I would be sceptical of entering the water with a view to swim unless you are a strong swimmer. The waves can be large, and the beach seems to drop suddenly after only a few metres or so suggesting that it gets very deep, very quickly. The tide never seems to go out very far either.

€5 entry fee. Not as ornate inside as the Catholic Church but there was lots to see, with good explanations to read. Amazing how old everything was! A small museum up the first set of stairs was good. Steps up to the tower had to be taken carefully as they were quite smooth underfoot. Great views from the top!

I visited this museum in the centre of town following a tour of Faro.. Small but interesting, so worth a visit. With some temporary exhibits of art at the time too.

What a great place. Especially when they have a festival with great music and delicious food. And off course the beers were really good too.

Loved this. €10 each for a return trip via the ferry. Took a left hand turn from the drop off point and walked along the beach. Lovely sand, and lots of beautiful shells....there are a few sunbeds and umbrelas along the way, and as you get further down the beach it's naturist friendly! We walked back along the boardwalk, and had a drink and a sandwich at the restaurant....the only place to eat, drink, and use a bathroom....before getting the ferry back. Beautiful day, will definitely return....but next time will take water, beach towels and bikini....husband wants to try the naturist bit, I'm not so keen!!! You're a captive audience, so you'll pay more at the bar/restaurant, but this is a great place for a visit....it's beautiful x

"Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve" is a quite interesting and live museum! It brings freshness and creativity to Faro. Visit its permanent exhibition - "Das Estrelas às Estrelas" ("From the Stars to the Stars", in English), very instructive and designed for kids. it links "galactic stars" to the "starfish" found at neighboring "Parque Natural da Ría Formosa". Three aquariums and interactive spaces complete the scene. Science workshops are available for kids between 5 to 10 years old, and even birthday parties can be held at its premises. If you are staying a few days in Faro and brought your kids, they will certainly enjoy the visit. But for adults, it may be not so interesting. Enjoy!
