Museu de Angra do Heroismo Angra do Heroismo

If you love museums and history...this museum is a must see and do!!
This is one of the best presented museums I have ever been in, on a par with Shanghai Museum.
Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre Horta

The museum is very interesting and explains perfectly the volcanic activity it's different characteristics and the changes it creates.
Wonderful museum about the volcanoes on the Azores
Museu da Fabrica da Baleia do Boqueirao Santa Cruz das Flores
#3 of 41 Museums in Azores
While in Flores I would highly recommend a visit to this whaling Museum, it provides a good look into the history of whaling in the Azores and is very well done with very good presentations.
If you can put aside your aversion to anything to do with whaling and cast your mind back to the late 1800s and appreciate this for what it was, as we did, then you will enjoy this Museum.

Peter Cafe & Scrimshaw Museum Horta
#6 of 41 Museums in Azores
The scrimshaw museum was very informative and worth a visit to see the history of a dying art form (I'd rather see the whales with their teeth).
The Horta scrimshaw museum is actually above the pub "Peter Cafe Sport" on the harbour side at Horta.

Highly Informative Military Museum in the Fortress Complex
Visited the museum in November 2015, we were the only visitors, it's one of those places where you can touch weaponry, take lots of funny pictures and also learn lots of facts.

Excellent little museum and guided tour (2.50 euros!) Really friendly and informative guide in English that talked us through the history of the museum, including all the Tim Burton machinery!
During one of my island-tours my driver / guide Sergio Cordeiro brings me to a very interesting museum: Musea do Tobacco de Maia, a small tobacco plantation / factory with a museum.
