I wasn't originally that enamoured with the idea of going to sunny Lisbon and heading indoors to a dark aquarium, but I am now converted! It's a really interesting experience - you're guided through various environments, including the penguin-filled South pole, with manageable amounts of text to read to inform you as you go. The central main aquarium, which you keep coming back to in between the other environments, is really impressive and has all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures. The experience is fun, but there's also a more serious message around the need for humans to stop destroying animals' habitats - hardly a barrel of laughs, but I'm glad they've incorporated this given the importance!

Stayed in an apartment in a building that survived the 1755 earth quake. Apartment has been updated but and is quite comfortable and the area is full of plenty of restaurants with friendly staffs.

Totally different local architecture, wonderful and seniors get a reduced entrance price. Get your tickets to the left of the main entrance before joining the queue there

A wonderful museum, hosting the private collection of a single collector, which are beautifully displayed. Has many well known artists - including Monet, Rembrandt, Degas and Rubens. The garden is as attractive - a wonderful place of rest and quiet in a busy town. Definitely a must to visit, when you are in Lisbon.

One of the best maintained museums. Very interesting and beautifully presented history of tiles. Its a pain to get there but it is worth it.

When I hear Lisbon, the first thing that comes to my mind is the large and spacious Praça do Comércio by the beautiful Tagus. Quite easily, I think the area can accommodate hundreds of thousands of people. What an amazing space to explore and take pictures, especially of the majestic arch.

I visited the stadium whilst in Lisbon for a Sporting match. You can walk all the way around and view the outside of the stadium which looks fantastic. Even better, you can grab a drink in it's restaurant and view the pitch and stands on the inside.

One of the best free and easily accessible views of Lisbon. Definitely worth the hike (or tuk tuk if you're lazy).

Bairro Alto is diverse, and fun. i enjoyed walking and taking photos of contemporary street art and graffiti nestled between homes and buildings that had been there for centuries. I enjoyed food from traditional Portuguese to African-Portuguese and have a newly-found love for sangria.

This must surely be one of the finest views in Lisbon, although it is currently partially marred by the presence of a very large crane. The building works are apparently here to construct a funicular which will allow better access to the viewpoint. The railings at the edge of the viewpoint get quite crowded at sunset, so get here with time to snag your spot at the front.

The picture here appears to be of Praca Luis de Camoes, which seems to be the heart of Chiado. We rented an apartment right on this square...Chiado seems to be the heart of Lisbon's activity...restaurants and shops around every corner and close to everything--the famous 28 Tram car runs right through the square. Be prepared to walk up and down hills on cobblestones and if you drive the streets are cobblestone. If you stay elsewhere you are not seeing the heartbeat of the city.

If in Belem to see the monastery and the tower, stop at this contemporary arts museum to see the excellent permanent collection, as well as the temporary shows. Uncrowded and huge.

The Nations park is a new neighborhood of Portugal capital in the northeast by the Tagus river. It was built for the World Expo 1998 and is easy reachable from downtown by bus, subway or car.
I'd advise planning at least half a day (with transportation) to visit the area highlights:
    - Oceanario Lisboa (one of world's best aquariums, see that review),
    - Telecabine Lisboa (scenic cable car ride along the Tagus),
    - Science museum,
    - Vasco de Gama shopping mall (huge) and bridge (one of the longest).

This is a beautiful looking white stone palace with grand steps that lead up to it's door. You can get multiple photos from all angles as you can walk all the way around it's concourse. It has a large dome feature to the top front with four large pillars to it's entrance. There are various different figurines that adorn it's doorway too.

This place is refreshing and cool, full of bars, restaurants and shops. The graffiti and the bookstore are amazing. I would recommend seeing this if you want something other than church and palaces.
