We went on a bright sunny morning in the winters. We were very lucky that the sun was out in its full glory and we enjoyed our time at the Acropolis area which houses the big attraction Parthenon.

We parked at Plaka and took a 15 minutes walk to Acropolis at around 9 am. Since we were planning to have lunch and spend the afternoon at Plaka, it makes sense that you park in Plaka and then walk down here. It is a lovely walk in the winter sun.

We just went to the Parthenon area and did not go to the museum. The museum is supposedly quite famous but we are not fans of museums and did not want to go as you have to pay extra (not covered in the Acropolis and Slopes ticket). For Acropolis and slopes we did the booking through the official website. It is very convenient and you get the tickets with a guide map. If you book the tickets online you can directly reach the entrance and enter after getting the tickets scanned.

We spent around 2 hours in total. There is not much to do here except for enjoying the sun and clicking pictures with the Parthenon in the background. Now a days there is perpetual construction going on there but that doesn't affect the experience so much. In the area is also the North side flag post which is crowded with so many people. We didn't go there. Beautiful views of Athens from East side where you have benches to sit and enjoy the breeze, the winter sun and get to see the views of Athens. We could spot our hotel from there - Athens Gate Hotel.

There is a toilet and a drinking water tap basin in the compound which is very helpful. There is nothing much around the area. I think there are 2 entrances and then there is the theatre of Dionysus which you can see when you are proceeding up to Parthenon but the entry to the theatre is from below from another way. We wanted to go to the bottom of the theatre but it was not connected from the Parthenon area. You will have to get out of Parthenon area and find another way to go to the bottom of the theatre. They could have easily made an entrance from the Parthenon area. We just kind of gave up then and did not go there.

For us it was not so much the monument, but more the compound on a lovely sunny winter morning and then the views of Athens which made it special. Else there is nothing much to see here beyond a point if you were to compare to places like say the Colosseum.

Lots to see. Classy museum specifically dedicated to the Acropolis and the stuff they found around it. Spent a couple hours there and enjoyed it.

You just can't visit Athens and not visit the Acropolis Parthenon. A few things to know: There is a lot of walking, climbing, uneven terrain, and steep steps. An elevator is available once you get up to the Parthenon, but it is not easy to find so I would suggest asking one of the people at the gate. Now having said that - the views are simply amazing!!! Give yourself plenty of time for this visit... you will be glad you did, and make sure your phone is charge because you will want to take tons of photos!

If you are headed to Athens, make time to visit Plaka. You will want to spend the day walking through the area (it is a lot of walking). From wonderful ruins, great restaurants and shops to art galleries, street vendors, coffee shops and outdoor areas it will be a fantastic experience to make your trip even better! We were not expecting Plaka to have so much and for us to enjoy it the way we did!!

Really interesting to visit the stadium and take the self-guided tour using the headset provided in the entry prices. Wonderful history and great to learn that the facility is still being used today

Lycabetus hill is a great place to spend a few hours to watch the sunset over Athens. We took the funicular up because of time but probably fairly easy if you are fit. Note that even just walking to the bottom of the hill where the streets and houses and restaurants are takes some effort so you need to be fairly fit.

The view and sunset over Athens were amazing.

Tip - people will crowd round the top point to try to get the best view and take photos, but if you just go down the path for a few metres you will be slightly lower but the view is still great and nowhere near as many people.

There is also a bar up there for a drink and a (fairly posh) restaurant for a meal.

The funicular is quite expensive and it is entirely underground so not worth it for the view, just as an easy means to get up there. We would recommend taking the funicular up and then walking back down to save the money.

We walked down after the sunset and a few drinks and it was easy, It takes about 15 mins, although a torch or phone is useful as the lighting is sparse in some places.

Truly a terrific museum and despite usually being technically challenged, the app added real value to my visit and worked well for me. A number of areas were closed when we visited in December, but there was already so much to see I don't think we could have taken much more in anyway. The collection of Minoan, Cycladic and ancient art is truly outstanding - don't skimp on your stay.

Very good if interested in history and ancient ruins, and like a lot of places in Athens very reasonably priced.

Nowhere near as busy as the Acropolis.

You can easily look around in a couple of hours or spend all afternoon there, and the neighbourhood has lots of restaurants nearby.

This was such a surreal experience. Beautiful in every sense, wish we could have went in but was still amazing nonetheless. Definitely a top attraction in Athens to visit

For white buildings at Anafiotika quarter, walk uphill road next to Acropolis Museum from Plaka. Some people had difficulty finding this quint place. I saved St George on the Cliff church on my google map and it is way easier that way.

You will just need to make a loop from this landmark. Be mindful as real people still live here. So limit your noise when visiting.

    Be aware of pickpockets!
(Anafiotika quarter is the placed where workers/builders from Cyclades island came for job in Athens and settled. Since I do not have time to visit Mykonos, this is the closest I can get with Whitewashed houses.)

We visited Monastiraki with my boyfriend and really enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere! The narrow streets are full of small shops, vintage items, and cozy cafés. Our walk was wonderful, especially with the beautiful view of the Acropolis, though it’s good to stay alert in some busier spots where it can feel a bit crowded. Despite that, it’s a unique experience, and we’d love to visit again!

Well worth the climb. We went up through the trees and not path set out, a bit scrambling needed but worth it for views every time we stopped to catch our breath. We made it to the monument. Views from here at a 360o degree angle cannot be beaten no other view of the Acropolis and all other the city can beat it. Wander back down proper path and you will find the Pnyx and Socrates prison. A highlight of our trip to be up here.

    National Garden: A Green Getaway

The National Garden is a peaceful spot in the heart of Athens, with shady, intersecting paths that make it perfect for a relaxing stroll. There’s even a small café—nothing fancy, but it’s surrounded by nature, making it a great place to sit and soak in the calm. A nice hour walk.
