Lovely views, variety in geography, a place you can get away from hectic life and feel tranquil and all by yourself even being so close to to the business of a city.
Walk in the woods, enjoy lakes and hills, visit some of the traditional resting places for travellers and enjoy view over Oslo.

The train trip from Oslo to Bergen was an outstanding experience that provided us with views of snow covered mountains and plateaus, stark glaciers, lush forests, charming villages and magnificent fiords.
... provide ever changing views, including the industrial, populated city to the snow covered mountains above the tree line, with forests, meadows, waterfalls, fjords, water rapids and other sights in between.

I loved it all: the catacombs with candle lights, the guides in costumes, the light- and film-show at midnight, the amazing views.

The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History is on Bygdøy peninsula, a half hour ferry ride from Oslo harbor; it's a huge open-air museum and is in my view Oslo's most compelling attraction, even more interesting than...
Abundant wild flowers, close up views of those grass covered roofs, a magnificent stave church and a cosmopolitan 18th cent town house are all in the mix.

Pebble streets, beautiful housing, grand military architecture (old warehouses, dining halls, etc) makes this an interesting and beautiful historic site.
Lovely views across the river, and the town square was unique in style and character..

Amazing natural park, excellent views and hikes.
While we only were able to visit the park as we drove through as part of out tour group we had plenty of stops to enjoy and take in the view.

A relaxed atmosphere, quite a few cafés and restaurants, notably Skipperstuen with a lovely view over the fjord.

Stroll the harbour and visit a restaurant og sit down on a bench to relax with a view, picnic or grilling in north end, where boats are docked in guest harbour.

Walk along the fjord passing several interesting sights like the Astrup Fearnley art museum, the Akershus Castle and Fortress, the Opera and more.
The views across to the Akershus Fortress were lovely and the atmosphere here was very relaxed, lots of people just taking in the sights and making the most of a traffic free environment.

At any time of day I think Karl Johan is a must walk down street, in the daytime it's nice to walk and see the tourist landmarks and visit the shops but at night there is a whole different atmosphere.
We liked that it was an easy to remember landmark for catching the subway, during our first few days in the city while we were still learning our way around, and one of my favorite things was being able to look up...

The castle, fortress, is tranquile and beautiful, with a museum of the norwegian resistance movement from WW2 - and beautiful kodak places where you can enjoy the sights of the fiord and the posh Aker Brygge.
There is a lot of history here, plus the grounds and buildings are beautiful and very relaxing to stroll around, plus the elevated position offers magnificent views of the Oslo fjord and back into the city.
