Housed on the site of the 18th Century hospital, this museum is really atmospheric.
This 18th century building (built on the site of earlier hospitals that had burnt down) offers a fascinating view of early modern European hospitals.

Worth a visit and thoroughly recommend you pay to get in and view the inside as it's important to maintain these beautiful little churches.
Even as a fan of black metal, the location itself is magical and it makes sense why this used to be a religious site before Christianity came to Norway.

A climb up to the grotto where Grieg and Ole Bull reputedly composed some of their music is rewarded by finding a cool cave again with Superb views en route.
If you have spare time after the visit you can visit the old monastery only 10 min drive from the docking site of the boat bringing you to the island.

The church itself was so beautiful, situated on the top of the hill with a good view of the sunrise and sunset.
We walked there to get to the University museum and it has a great view from the top of the stairs.
