Not to be missed! This unique setting on an island owned by the Swedish royal family just off shore from Konstanz is a garden jewel. Even if you‘re not a huge botanical gardens fan, this experience may convert you. It’s a short trip on the ferry that you can easily extend to a several hours excursion to several towns along Bodensee. Full disclosure - I had my first Eiskaffee here many years ago, which was still the best ever. You can take a nice break from walking. Beautiful fountains too on the grounds. GO!!

Lovely harbour, you can have a beautiful walk at the promenade in the early evening. Visit the statue Condtance and see how she turns.

A stroll in the old town is a must. Perfectly renovated buildings and relaxed atmosphere. You just go from a beautiful building to another. Very nice.

After a wonder through the Niederburg part of town, it is highly recommended to go inside the Munster. The spire is beautiful and the intricately carved doors are impressive.
Once inside, go round to the side chapel at the far end of the Munster (to the left of the high altar) and through a door to go down into the crypt. (Which is interesting and isn’t too scary!). My children described it as ‘the chamber of secrets’!
From there, a door on the left leads out in the cloisters, also worth a look. Go back into the Munster the way you came and continue your visit round inside the church.
Our guide book mentioned an impressive spiral staircase, but I think the door to that was locked when we visited.

Peter Lenk does some really strange but interesting statues. This is right in Konstanz harbor and is certainly an eye catcher.

Lots of interesting material on Konstanz' history. Most of the information in German but an English language summary pamphlet. The model of medieval Konstanz especially impressive. The exhibition on Konstanz in 1939 and during WW2 very moving, even if most of the info was in German. We certainly enjoyed our visit.

Schloss Mainau old and restored Schloss of the Swedish dynasty and decor of the Andre Rieu's concert: Rosen as den Suden, is pretty. Staff is friendly. Church is also good for a visit.

The fountain has an iron horse that you can sit on. Some young adults were taking photos of each other while we were there.

This church doesn’t look like much on the outside, but the inside is lovely. The lower parts have been made practical for use, the the upper part of the church maintains its connection with its history. Well done.

If you have a 2 year old it is nice, but for bigger kids or adults there is not much to see. My husband and I went through in less than 30min and were truly disappointed. Positive is that it was clean and fish looked to be well looked after

My friend and I took a day trip in Konstanz and walk all around town, down to the harbor and in the city park.
