I recommend joining a tour with the guide that is included in price. I learnt a lot from it. The story of the castle and its owners sounded like from Game of Thrones. Very interesting place. Inspired me to dig deeper into the history of the region.

This was a fascinating museum visit. George really made it worth it, and was a fountain of knowledge. So much of our history can be found here, that unfortunately most of us are unaware of

The priest, Reverend Chris St. James (I hope I recall that correctly) is the perfect guide to tell you about this magnificent old church. So much history to learn and with a delightful sense of humor. There were tombstones going back to the 1700s. A must see and don’t miss Cerrickfergus Castle.

We were on a private tour and our tour guide included a stop here. George did an excellent job of sharing the historical connection of Andrew Jackson's origin in Ireland as well as the origin of the US Rangers in Northern Ireland. Great little hidden gem that is well worth a visit if you are in Belfast.

Went to see their Reimagining The Islandmagee Witches: An Interactive Exhibition.

Liked it. I must go back, and take some more time there. They had virtual reality things and more I ran out of time to see everything.

From 1711 the witch trials are a true life tale that has dreadful power in 2023.
People love to gang up, believe total garbage, and literally pillory others for it.

The show has a new animated cartoon version of the story. I liked the artwork. I liked the font on the displays. There are some chilling real-life manacles from the Carrickfergus museum. There's a poem from Whitehead's Adrian Rice. I found Hazel Bruce and Alison Gault's textile artworks strangely haunting.

The show is well worth seeing. You can take part in a computer survey that's gauging reactions. FREE entry. The staff of the museum were there, interesting people to talk to. I'll be back. The show runs until Sat 16th November 2023.

Fabulous children's park and playground with plenty of things to keep the little ones entertained for an hour or so. Unfortunately the pirate ship was undergoing maintenance when we were there but still enough to occupy our boy

This was a pretty marina to walk around. We only had a short walk as unfortunately it was raining on and off that day but we enjoyed the fresh air and sail boats.

Grey herons have a habit of standing 300 yards away, and of flying off if you try to approach nearer. This autumn at the Mill Ponds in Carrick a young heron has taken up residence who isn't spooked by people at all. It was ten feet from me, for quite some time. Great photo opportunity. The birds here like people, and great numbers of pigeons and gulls flew over to surround me, presumably hoping for a feed. All I had was a camera, so I must have been a great let-down for them! Shaftesbury Park was starting to take on its autumn colours, so the next few weeks will be a great time of year to visit.

I enjoy visiting each week. Big, spacious library, all on one level. Automatic doors to get in, a push door to reach a big computer room at the back. Lots of tables and chairs. Computers with free Internet if you have a library card. Some newspapers. Toilets, plural, two of them. In some libraries you have to ask for a key, here visitors can just walk into them.

There microfilm machine has moved out to the computer room. The newspapers room with years of of old papers in binders is accessible again. You ask for keys to use either. I regularly do; they’re a great resource. The staff are very helpful.

There’s a new thing outside. Plants are growing in trays all the way up the wall in one corner. Just across the road is a car park and a bus stop.

Great to get to visit an art gallery again. Robert knew me straight away, even after months being missing, and my face being obscured by a mask and a mop of overgrown hair. He’s a great gallery guide, very upbeat and knowledgeable. This time the exuberant skies of a Scottish artist’s paintings caught my eye.

I told you last time they'd relocated to 8 Fairview Terrace, on the Woodburn Road (BT38 8PY), right beside the purple-painted Brown Cow Inn. Now that’s painted blue, and renamed the Cow and Caf (yes, Caf for café). Plenty of free car parking on the road outside, although I chose to pull in on a big area of gravel with a gate that was two buildings up the hill.
