We visited Clonakilty in October and the centre was closed (off season). However, an email to the centre (Tim Crowley) offered a quick response and we booked a private tour for our party of five. We drove in our car and Tim drove in his. We stopped at four locations and learned about every phase of Michael Collins’ life. It was 3.5 hours and was one of the best tours we had in Ireland. My 8 year old son enjoyed it and Tim kept his attention. Tim was incredibly knowledgeable and very hospitable.

What a stunning beach and the views were spectacular

We arrived during a week of sun ☀️ and had 3 visits, the first to find out bearing and then 2 other visits to swim. One day being amazing sunshine and the other a bit cloudy and very choppy with huge waves

Lots of surfers and people on boards enjoying the waves, we just enjoyed jumping them.

Was still warm enough to swim

Free parking is great, a little place to grab coffee and nibbles next to the hotel which must have stunning views

    A real place of beauty

The tour was just amazing…. Absolutely loved it. Chloe was our very Informative guide and luckily for me, not too technical.
The whiskey tasting was great, with a takeaway option for our driver which was greatly appreciated.
Enjoyed the shop and as a brandy drinker was intrigued to know what the whiskey recommendation would be. Galley Head was the choice and it was my favourite of all. Top job. Thank you.

This is well worth a visit, if you are at all interested in Irish history, particularly the War of Independance and the Civil War. Dont confuse it with the Michael Collins Centre outside of Clon, run by a distant relative of 'The Big Fella.' I was unable to visit the latter place because it has restricted opening hours, but would have done both places if my holiday had been later in the year.

The Michael Collins House packs a lot in, and you get a full picture of the man himself. There arent many historical artefacts, but that is not surprising. A statue of Michael Collins lies outside in one corner of Emmet Square.

I had a short but interesting conversation with the man on the reception desk. The subject was 'How would Ireland have developed differently, as a new State, if Michael Collins had lived.' Its a subject of legitimate discussion for everyone who loves Ireland, including me, an Englishman !

Myself, husband and two boys (3 year old and 3 month old) had a fantastic visit to the visitor centre. Really interesting tour and it was about 1 hour which was perfect with a newborn in tow. 3 year old had a ball trying on the outfits and searching for teddies. I especially loved seeing the factory and how it worked. Really appreciated that they had gluten free options too for the tasting at the end of the tour. Great value for money, would strongly recommend!

We attended a wedding there that catered for somewhere over 200 people. The meal was magnificent - my fillet steak was cooked to perfection, a lovely hint of pink in it. Well done to all involved.

I wasn't too sure if I should review this site as it is abandoned and as a consequence neglected. However this shouldn't be the case as it is a lost opportunity to illustrate the way our ancestors lived during the period that this type of site would have been in use. It was many years since I had first been here, a wonderful experience back then, when it had just been reconstructed by Clonakilty Macra Na Feirme in the late 1980's. The Ringfort is believed to have been originally constructed as early as 400 BC and has its own souterrain. The central building has remained intact a tribute to the standard of the reconstruction that was carried out over 30years ago. What a pity this site has been left to decay, when it seems that it wouldn't take a great deal of work to redevelop it as an tourism and educational facility. It is perhaps, the only example that I know, that is on an original site.

The entire family, young and old, enjoyed this really special place. Full of history and so much prettier than the "henge"!

I visited in mid July and found a small volunteer run museum in an old mouldy building in need of deserved funding as there are many interesting exhibits about Collins,Tom Barry,O Donovan Rossa, The GAA,Church, rural life etc. Give these guys some lotto money and this could be an excellent space!
