My children did the kid section and loved it. The instructors spoke English and helped them get started. They were very friendly.

A nice little square with some shops and cafes. It is nice to sit in one of those cafes and have a cup of coffee while watching people walking here and there.

Its more an art gallery than a castle tour. I'm no art fan but I actually really liked the art. Its a little hard to get around if you aren't able bodied (being a very old building) but you see enough of the castle as well and climb the tower so you get a good look around. Austria is always well kept, its just too beautiful to believe.

cIt is on the street near the city center. We can see it from our hotel window. It looks very nice any time of the day.

Amazing nice walk around the lake, great for both family and couple times. Would come more often in the future in any case.

Very nice road and experience. Probably around 4,5 stars, even if I rounded it at 4. Toilets are unfortunately missing, even for a mountain road. The is a point after the tunnel, but it was locked. Amazing seeing so much snow in autumn.

This was my first klam and klitterpark experience. The kids played in the water area and climbed all day. I would have loved to go back for a second visit but we ran out of time.

It's very hard to imagine what happened here when you look at this attractive alpine town and the beautiful local scenery.

What is now essentially an industrial park today had an ugly history between 1936 or so and 1947. Peggetz started as a German POW camp (think Stalag 11). Immediately at the end of WWII, thousands of cossacks and their families were collected here with the plan to return them to the Soviet Union. Recognizing that being sent back would be a death sentence, many committed suicide. Women actually jumped into the adjoining Drau River and drowned with their children. The massacre of the Lienz cossacks is largely forgotten today, although it became a plot point in the 1995 James Bond movie "Goldeneye".

Immediately following this sorry event, the British relocated thousands of Slovenian refugees in the same camp. By historical coincidence, the camp administrator at the time, RAF Group Captain Ryder Young, had been the pilot to take Neville Chamberlain to Germany in the infamous appeasement efforts before the war began. Young and the camp's civilian leader were in a serious Jeep accident in the summer of 1946. Young was killed and the refugees were moved to a larger camp in Spittal shortly afterwards.

Good luck finding out much about any of this in Lienz, which once posted an "Adolph Hitler Platz" in the town center. The POW camp, the Cossack massacres, the Slovenian refugees, none are anything the city wants to remember. The tourist office was barely aware of the location (although we did ultimately find it one a map).

All that remains is this surprisingly compact cemetery and chapel at the river's edge.

If you are a history buff, this is worth visiting if for no other reason than that history moves on. The setting is peaceful with a nice pedestrian bridge over the attractive Drau river. Say a prayer for the victims and move on.

The director of this small museum is a very literate and friendly son of a Kosac family . He guided us through the collection gaving us an overview of what happened with the Kosac army in Lienz. Fascinating and stimulating me to read more about the horrible story of those brave man who wanted to fight communism.
