This is a huge site and well worth spending a few hours there if your itinerary allows,We stayed in accommodation next to the Villa so we spent nearly all day there,we took our lunch and found lovely seating among the olive trees .There was plenty of seating spread throughout the site Mostly ruins but the scale of the place is mind blowing Well signposted and lots of byways to explore.Take time if you can and soak in the history.

This Saint born in 480 and died in 548 was the founder of Benedictine order, and during his living in Subiaco, he founded 12 community of monks before moving to Monte Cassine were he died .
Here, on this beautiful monastery inside the mountain, he lived the first years of his life , inside a crevasse into the mountain, transformed by the Benedictine into a church in many levels inside the mountain.
During his life , he started the main achievement , his Rules of Saint Benedict , contains a set of rules for his monks to follow.
These rules become one of the most influential rules to follow

GET GINO MARGIOTTA AS YOUR GUIDE.

Had to put that in caps and up front because he was soooooo good.

We did two tours with Dino and could not have had a better guide for our family of 4 including two jaded teenagers. He was interesting, but how he described the sights and the off beat settings he included could not have been more perfect. He lets you set the pace, fast or slow, in depth or an overview. Booked through Viator.

A very nice cave to visit and an overall excellent experience. The visit is well organized and the staff is
very kind and warm. The visit is interesting, child friendly and fun. We had an awesome tour guide Francesca and will be back in the spring for a more in depth tour when the level of water is higher.

The port itself is basically a working shipping port which loads and unloads container ships and also serves all cruise lines that stop at "Rome".

The port is roughly an hour away from Central Rome and from the Rome Airport. While you can arrange for transportation on the spot, I would strongly advise arranging transfer to the airport, especially, and to Central Rome thru your cruise line. It will cost you a bid more but they handle virtually everything and transport you in airconditioned buses.

Not much to see or do in the adjacent town which would be a long walk from your ship.

The old town of Frascati is charming & well worth a visit. The cathedral is stunning & is surrounded by small streets filled with cafes & shops. Well worth staying in Frascati or visiting from Rome.

We ended up at Torre Astura because we were told the water is really nice, and it is, I did quite a bit of snorkeling.

The interesting part is that the parking lot was closed on that day as Italian authorities still hadn't decided if they were gonna let people in or not, but not to worry.
There was a bunch of people that were just climbing over the 4 meter gate! So we joined them, and took a long walk through a pine forest filled with screaming cicadas in the summer's heat and finally we got to the beach.

We chose to settle by the ruins because they were deserted and there was an ancient pier which you could jump off into the crystal waters.

A really nice find overall, hopefully next time we won't have to climb over the gate!

Walking down the stairs was an experience to itself and walking around inside was real good. It was amazing to know that water flowed into the cistern also from springwaters. I'm fascinated by the engineering of this cistern and will also be visiting others.

You will see this at the end of your walk through Villa Gregoriana. You will enjoy viewing it as you hike up and down and then exit after seeing it up close. Nice views from here as well.

Walk along Via Della Torre Clementina until the end of the pier. Try to get a spot at the very end of it. Sit down. Prepare your camera. Wait for the sunset. Awe. Many larger and smaller restaurant along the road, but I recommend a stop by the trailler almost at the intersection with Via Portuense, where they sell porchetta sandwiches in fresh bread and with grilled vegetables at your choice.

Enjoy a gelato at Borghetto after a beach day!
Ice cream is great and the place is very unique and typical.
I was lucky enough to be there for "Sagra della Tellina", a pasta festival where you can enjoy great pasta with fresh seafood at very convenient prices.
The atmosphere was chilled and super fan.

This location has enormous beauty all around with slopping vistas, friendly people and great restaurants. We walked in this area many times as we stayed in Albano.
