- alina09marusKyiv, Ukraine1 contributionOld Tallinn fascinates with its medieval atmosphere! Narrow streets, old buildings, charming cafes and incredible views from the towers - every step is filled with history and beauty.Written September 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CristinelRomania1,278 contributionsBeautiful, picturesque The Town Square is the heart of Tallinn Old Town. Very well preserved, surrounded by beautiful buildings and a lot of restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops.
Could easily become very crowded, being so popular for tourists. The main building of the square is Tallinn Town Hall.Written September 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Reminds me of one in Helsinki.
Amazing architecture and inside littered with gold.

Some excellent exhibits set in the building used by the KGB.Written August 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jbg74Saint Paul, MN1,094 contributionsThis was an excellent art museum. There is a fair amount of modern art which I am mostly not a fan of, but there was a great collection of Soviet era art and an even better collection of 19th and early 20th century Estonian art. There were a couple of good collections of Surrealist art too. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of art and presentation. It is a world class art museum, well worth visiting.Written September 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stefanie HLincoln, NE1,746 contributionsTallinn has a wonderfully preserved series of medieval towers and walls, and they are all very easy to find in the historic center. The entry into the center takes you through a beautiful set of walls, along with the Fat Margaret tower. Highly recommend a walk along the walls!Written July 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- CristinelRomania1,278 contributionsNice place, beautiful area, very well preserved, transmits old centuries spirit.
Cannot be missed while in Old Town of Tallinn.
The fee for museum visit seems to be a little too high for what it really offers, so we choose not to. But we enjoyed the whole outside area as well.Written September 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. In the evenings, the exhibitions and shop are closed, and you don't get a free welcome drink as promised. During the day, everything is open and the experience is far more enjoyable.Written August 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DevonRedTrusham, UK687 contributionsNicely renovated market with great food options and interesting souvenir shops.
However, some of the antique shops sold fascist memorabilia that celebrated Hitler and Stalin, which I thought was odd and disturbing. Mugs with a swastika on them and tee shirts celebrating Hitler's 'Tour of Europe' were openly on sale. The pathetic disclaimer 'For private collectors only' is not a justification for profiting from genocide.
Visit the market to enjoy the food, but give the top floor a miss.Written September 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It will definitely get to anyone afraid of heights as the top is a narrow walkway around the outside of the copper spire on top of the roof. These are some of the best city views from a church bell tower in all of Europe. I climb lots of bell towers and this one is one of my top three.Written September 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Adrian C24 contributionsA surprising gem in the old city of Tallinn. This museum has a big selection of chivalry insignia/medals from all over the world. There are some obvious examples from major european powers but also from smaller european countries, and also some from Asia, Africa, Latin America. There is also a free audio guide that you can play on your mobile phone.Written August 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - nidriksDorset, UK168 contributionsI visited the palace and gardens on my first day in Tallinn. The museum has some wonderful works of art and was a pleasure to wonder.
There was a helpful security guard that helped guide me to the lockers for my bags. Language was a bit of a barrier but he did good. I have to say I felt a little uncomfortable when getting my ticket for the gallery as the woman serving seemed quite short and unimpressed with me. It left me wondering if language would be a huge barrier for my trip to Tallinn. It was a nice little visit though and the gardens are really nice for a wander after.
I am pleased to say that much of Tallinn, over my three days in the city, made up for any bad vibes from day one.Written August 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's bound to have a charm for history buffs. The stone walls and the paved streets look like you have walked into period era.Written July 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
