    PROS
    * "Brilliant experience of gliding through the breath-taking mountain scenery
    • Smooth quiet seemless comfortable journey- extremely organized, precision- operated
    • Three minute walk from the Wengen train station
    • Delivery to a central point on the Mannlichen peak
    * Covered by the Berner Oberland Pass
    • A CHF5 extra fee allows one to ride outside on the top of the gondola!!

    CONS
    • Frequency is maybe every 20 minutes?

    “I VISITED THIS PLACE…”
… twice during the week and it was at least my third season of doing that

The five minute ride is simply “brilliant,” as we say in British.

This time, we did it twice, once to experience the cold snow and blizzard of 28 August 2023 and then two days later to enjoy a clear sunny hike of incredible panoramic mountain vistas.

My 30 year old son declined both times paying the extra CHF5 to ride on top. That was fine with me because i had done that at least twice previously.

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
Sure, it is covered by the regional Berner Oberland Pass and the ride on the roof of the gondola is certainly worth the CHF5 surcharge

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    Sure

    ADVICE
    * Be sure to do this- it is a great experience
    * Pay the extra CHF5 and ride on the top

An uninterrupted fall of a fair column of water over a cliff so high is rather rare in most waterfalls. What I saw in Lauterbrunnen was such a rare sight just by the city itself. It was just walking distance from the railway station where the walk itself was very enjoyable on a sealed road going through grassland like terrain. “Staubbach Fall” was visible from the town itself and it was a matter of walking towards the falls along the beautiful country road. To reach the falls there was a side walk with built access. Falls had a fair amount of water sometimes getting drifted away by the cool strong wind. This at times atomised the column in to a drizzle or spray that drifted a fair distance from its usual landing area at the base. Very picturesque waterfall which we were able to gaze at for a long time.

The town with a series of water falls decorating it, was one of the most attractive towns we had the opportunity to visit. Lauterbrunnen valley that we saw was a relatively narrow strip of land bordered by two major cliffs, one of which was rich with the natural water features. Just outside the bustling village centre with cafes and tourist activity the road led us to very green pasture fields and open space with Swiss Alps with snowcapped peaks just ahead of it. Travel to Lauterbrunnen was easy taking the train from Interlaken hopping into the segment that traveled to Lauterbrunnen. It was a pretty relaxing area with extremely fresh air and peaceful atmosphere where we enjoyed every moment of our visit.

Several waterfalls inside the mountain. Short trip on the elevator is also great. Well maintained and clean. Not cheap, 2 adults and 2 kids was 40 euros. Although totally worthy.

We had a fun day taking the cable up and walking on the hill there. There are beautiful views. The restaurant is also very good. We rode the special scooters back and it was lots of fun. A bit scary for young kids but otherwise a great experience.

Loved this cute folk museum. Hours are short, but it was almost empty, so staff walk us through and took the time to explain things in English (as most signage is in German). One staff member was working on the huge loom, weaving, which we got to ask about. She kindly offered the chance to work on the small loom. I was scared I would break it, so I declined. Definitely check this out when you’re in the area! It’s like a mini Ballenberg museum. Much more worthwhile than climbing to the “back” of Staubbach Falls!

The location is super nice! Beautiful view. It was great to cool off at a really hot day.
The pool was nice, simple. The food was really good. The pool and food was not over expensive like most of the rest in the area.

Located at one end of the village, this is a pretty church which we walked past many times during our short star in Lauterbrunnen

Two Tweens & Mom. Long Weekend Stay (4days). Top of Europe Travel Pass 1/2 Price was Super! Quickly covered: Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Männlichen, Kleine Scheidegg, Grindelwald, First, Lake Balchpsee, Cliff Walk, Eigerglascher, Jungfraujoch, EisPalast and the stops on the train between the two areas. It was a splendid time. September is ideal as it wasn’t too cold or too warm for adventure. Rain in the forecast but we managed to do all the things without much issues even encountering the showers we had. Bring a raincoat and decent shoes and you’ll do fine. Backpack with water bottle and camera served us well.
Wengen was our hub, we stayed at the Arenas Spa Resort which was beautiful, very accommodating and the pool was a sweet treat after a day of exploring the alps. (Take a Multi-Plug as there Are very few plugs in the rooms). We did half board and it was pleasant/pleasing.

    PROS
    * The way to get from Lauterbrunnen to Murren
    * Fun exciting excursion by cable car with beuatiful scenic views of the Lauterbrunnen Village and its valley and especially of Staubbach Falls
    * Coming from Lauterbrunnen, there is perfect time coordination with the arriving train from Interlaken and then the gondola is coordinated with the little train transport from Grutschalp to Murren
    * Covered by the Berner Oberland Regional Pass

    CONS
    * It goes infrequently enough so that it is always crowded
    * It take time- longer than I would expect

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because that is the way to get to Murren.

The gondola is fun, with the views from the left side.

The train is OK, but it is fun to sit in the conductor's seat with the driver of the train next to you (that's what I did)

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
Yes- it's the only way to get up to Murren and it is covered by the Berner Oberland Regional Pass

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Sure, since the previous four visits were all in rain and clouds, so maybe I'd get a sunny day next time

    ADVICE
    * Stands on the left side of the gondola as it ascends, so as to see the Lauterbrunnen Village and valley and the Staubbach Falls
    * Sit in the front row of the little train, exactly next to the conductor operating the train
