- Rachel J1 contributionSuch an important part of history and especially women's history. The building is massive. The tour guide, Jessica, was amazing! She was so knowledgeable and full of good facts. She made the tour fly by.Written September 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Liz JLancaster, PA109 contributionsWe spent the entire day exploring Harpers Ferry and can now say we hiked the Appalachian Trail in two states😊. Highly recommend sitting in on Park Ranger talk provided near John Browns Fort, very informative. It’s a stunning area with spectacular views. Town is quite hilly if you explore beyond the National Park area but well worth the walk.Written September 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jdubbsMaryland15 contributionsWhile the penitentiary's conditions were terrible during its operation, the tour was terrific! I highly recommend it for anyone in the area. Based on excellent reviews we took a day to deviate from our overall itinerary, and it was well worth the time.Written September 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cheyenne Rae27 contributionsThe pathway to the lookout is easy going downbut might make you a little winded going up. (but worth it!) there are a few benches you can sit on to admire the view once you get to the end.Written September 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rebecca MMorgantown, KY84 contributionsWe came here on the advice of a young lady at Mtn St Mini-Golf to find it one of the best--if not, THE best!--tours of our 31-years of married life! I went in with my adolescent, Butler County KY coal strip mining background and our shared Kentucky Coal History Museum and Blue Heron train experiences of past family vacations and came away with the experiences of an 82-year-old's memories of her adolescence right there where she curated the superintendent's house and of a 23-years' experienced area miner! Both told the truth of Appalachian Coal Company Town life respectfully and frankly, their stories seasoned with testimonies of God's grace through it all down to the present time. Another guide native to Wyoming where he'd attended a two-room school is curator of the town's such school and along with several various college degrees, has educated himself on humanity's history with coal and the long lasting impact of the industry upon WV and Appalachia, generally. The voters of our nation need to come to the truth of coal. All donation-driven, so no propaganda!Written September 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sue HMasontown, PA21 contributionsThe views are beautiful, nice walking trails to get to the falls. The halfway point was the town of Durbin. Lunch is provided at various restaurants. We ate ate the one across the street from where the train stopped and it was terrific! We plan to go back and do one of the other train rides- maybe two🙂Written September 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lindsay F73 contributionsThe guided tour is INTENSE! The fully guided tour is amazing but make sure you know what you are signing up for. You will spend 4 hours in the caves literally crawling through incredibly tight spaces. Do NOT recommend if you are even a little bit claustrophobic.Written September 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RaineyUtah5 contributionsWe were meeting a friend from the area and decided to make a quick stop at this museum. First, I must say it was so much more than expected and we needed more than a quick stop to see the whole museum. Second, I loved the set up where you traveled through the timeline of the state. It was so well put together and there were interesting things for all ages to see.Written August 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JAG782Camp Hill, PA48 contributionsSpa experience was wonderful! Dont let the basic atmosphere turn you off. Yes its lacking some of the frills of high-end spas but they made up for it in cleanliness, the add-on mineral bath, the spa attendant (efficient and professional) and best of all the masseuses. Chris gave me a tremendous deep tissue massage, both relaxing and therapeutic at the same time, like a blend of chiropractic and massage techniques. My husband said his (young, very strong female) was fantastic as well, great pressure and application of technique.Written September 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kathy KJacksonville Beach, FL19 contributionsMy husband and I signed up for the Falconry experience at the Greenbrier Resort. Cody was our expert and did an amazing job explaining the history and process of Falconry. He was extremely patient and kind to everyone. His love of what he does is evident. I will never forget this bucket list experience. Thank youWritten September 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jean AFishers, IN13 contributionsGorgeous building, marble everywhere and the dome is spectacular. We would have liked to have done a guided tour but were there 2 hours before it started so we did a self guided tour. We enjoyed it very much.Written July 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- kkaarrllPennsylvania33 contributionsGreat place to hike and relax. We stayed in CCC cabin #19 which was 2 bedroom (one full bed and bunks in other room). Full kitchen and full bath (shower was quite small). Large stone firplace in living room. All dishes, cookware and linens provided. Cabin guests recieve one bundle of wet wood per night of stay. Cabin was clean and furnished but was small, OK for us 2.
Cabins 1-6 and cabins 7-13 are on very narrow one lane roads so if you meet someone head on somebody will have to do some difficult backing up. Cabins 14 -28 are on wider 2 lane roads.
Miles and miles of hiking trails in park. We were able to access most trails right from our cabin without having to drive. Be prepared for some elevation changes as you have to climb up and down steeply on some trail sections. Also some sheer cliff exposure so keep a close eye on kids.
Recommended hike: Start on service road just north of upper cabin area on Twin hollow trail on left side of road. Follow north until it crosses park road and continue on what is now the ridge top trail. This will take you downhill and south until it reaches main park road, turn left and follow park road and watch left side of road for trailhead to the natural arch which is very close. Enjoy short hike to arch which you can go through and over then return to park road. Turn left again and follow road to visitor center where you can enjoy the CCC constructed park headquarters and dam as well as the operational grist mill (check seasonal hours of operation). After that return out park road the way you came until you see the road leading to cabins 1-6 and turn left here. Follow this until you see the trail sign for the Skyline trail on your right. Take this up (STEEPLY at first) and enjoy several short side trails to rocky view points. This trail leads up to the Manns picnic area which has a great vista. Continue on park road from here which will take you past upper cabin loop and to the service road where the Twin Hollow trailhead is and you have completed a near 8 mile loop containing most of the parks vistas.
Babcock is near the 3 sections of New River gorge national park. Just nirth of Babcock is the canyon rim visitor center with the famous new river bridge and the very pretty and easy endless wall trail. The sandstone visitor center is about 30 minutes south of Babcock and has the amazing sandstone falls and boardwalk hike. Stop at sandstone visitor center for directions to the falls area as it is a bit of a drive to get to it. The Grandview section of New river has a short hike to the eponymous vista with a longer hike to Turkey knob vista. All worthwhile.Written September 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
