- ScottSan Francisco, CA6,582 contributionsNice Old Town area for a quick walk. You might want to press on to the next off ramp for a good meal. I've had a few experiences dining out in this neighborhood, and never left shocked and amazed.
My favorite thing about Old Town Auburn is the county seat and museum on the hill. You can see it from interstate 80, and I think it's a great place to stop for a photo. I've never been in the museum, but I'll be checking it out soon.
Old Town was an absolute train wreck during COVID-19. At the height of the pandemic, no one wore a mask, even in restaurants.Written July 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A friend if can call them that! They work at Sacramento hotel you knowing where, you knowing when, you knowing who! They took me to this of Lake Clementine! In July so yes, people still wear mask that is a good thing!
Well, there was a Canadian Goose! It seems to want make friends with me! It was not even afraid of me, I wonder if maybe it is Imprinted on People! Maybe it just wanted some cookie crumbs! When I try get near, the person says, Be Careful! You Not Want Take The Chance! Wow, then it found another family, try make friends with that family!
This is a good place, there a beach area! People were in the water to get wet and to swim! Very nice place to visit! I will recommend it!Written September 7, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I used to live in the area and have included it in my runs many times. The view can be a bit daunting if you look straight down.
We went on a Sunday and there were 4 other people on the bridge. Parking on the road east of the bridge is the best spot, in my opinion, but be very careful of traffic coming down the hill.Written October 15, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Service is quick, with lines at the bar rarely more than a couple people deep. My wife and I call this the "dog park with beer," lol, so don't go if you hate dogs.Written August 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA17,560 contributionsThis is the most prominent building in town and it is handsome, old school. You can even see it from the highway! It's in the center of town and where county business happens.Written July 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gl0baltr0tterShanghai, China1,372 contributionsEasy 2 mile round-trip hike to Calcutta fall. Enjoyed the partially-shaded walk along the river led to the fall. Read interesting facts about the history and durability of the bridge. Saw the largest flock of swallow from above on the bridge. Also encountered many butterflies along the way. The waterfall itself was underwhelming and hogged by one group with kids and dogs while we were there. Also there were horse manure and dog poop along the path.Written April 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Queen JCalifornia2,505 contributionsGreat little museum just 2 blocks from the new Downtown Auburn near Hwy 49 & Lincoln Way.
It's free to visit and takes less than an hour. The small displays are well organized with clear information signs. I particularly liked the displays of the mining equipment and the stamp machine. Stamp mills are really loud, but this small stamp machine quietly operates behind the display glass. I don't think the rods actually make contact with the floor.
The "gold mine" is a short tunnel that replicates a mine shaft. It has faux rock walls, a wooden floor and support beams, dim lighting, and a display of miners inside. The entire tunnel is about 20ft in length. It's not a real mine shaft, but it's a fun feature your kids will like.

Based on internet information and/or signage, we had the impression this museum was closed due to Covid. We were walking by this beautiful stately building and decided to walk up to the doorway...it was open and we went inside. This is when we found out the museum was open. We had a wonderful visit. This was enhanced by the fact we got to go to a real indoor museum after over a year of doing everything outdoors. The docent at the museum was friendly, helpful and gave great suggestions about what to view in the building. We viewed all the exhibits and then went to the upper floors to view the beautiful hallways on the courtroom floors. The courtrooms were locked, so we could not see inside unfortunately. If you are in Placer County Old Town area, don't miss coming here. It will only take you about an hour, and you will learn a lot about local and California history.Written April 18, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Len RAuburn, CA283 contributionsWe enjoyed a lovely Thursday afternoon tasting a number of wines and picnicking in the shaded area adjacent to the tasting room. Julie was our hostess and did a fine job of explaining each of the selections available. As with any winery, your appreciation of the wines will depend on how closely your taste buds align with those of the winemaker. We found them to be generally a little sweeter than we prefer, but did purchase a couple of very good ones, thus avoiding the tasting fee. Worth a visit.Written August 25, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- HORTIAuburn, CA55 contributionsThis place is terrific and the all-volunteer docents make it so with their individualized perspectives and stories. It's beautifully kept and seasonally decorated so return trips are always a new experience. It is well loved by local school programs, bringing history alive. Just a great place to visit, look, listen, learn, enjoy.Written July 30, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robert LMuncie, IN61 contributionsDon’t be turned off by the deserted office park vibe when you arrive. Like a mullet, it’s all business in the front and party in the back—the back covered patio that is! Tonite there was a lobsta roll food truck and of course, beer! Sorry for the exclamation points, but the well balanced mosaic crush IPA is waaay too easy to drink. I also liked the juice stack, but I’m a sucker for citrus with my hops. There’s several flavors to choose from (Baskin Robbins eat your heart out), so why not get a flight of six? The smokier stuff ain’t my groove, but others like it.Written June 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
