What travellers are saying
- Khiem H2 contributionsPerched majestically along the rugged coastline of Oahu, Makapu'u Point emerges as a beacon of natural wonder and awe-inspiring beauty. From its vantage point, visitors are treated to a breathtaking panorama that epitomizes Hawaii's paradise in all its splendor.
As the gentle sea breeze dances across the azure waters of the Pacific Ocean, the view from Makapu'u Point unfolds like a masterpiece painted by Mother Nature herself. Towering sea cliffs adorned with lush vegetation cascade down to meet the crystal-clear waters below, creating a scene of unparalleled serenity and tranquility.
But it's not just the oceanic vista that captivates the soul; it's the sheer magnitude of the landscape that leaves visitors spellbound. From the majestic Koolau mountain range to the sprawling coastline dotted with palm-fringed beaches, every inch of the horizon exudes an air of timeless beauty and boundless adventure.
And let's not forget the iconic Makapu'u Lighthouse, standing proudly as a sentinel of the sea. Against the backdrop of cerulean skies and emerald cliffs, this historic beacon adds a touch of old-world charm to the already enchanting landscape, serving as a reminder of Hawaii's rich maritime heritage.
But perhaps the most magical aspect of Makapu'u Point is its ability to transport visitors to a realm of pure bliss and serenity. As the golden sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of pink and orange, time seems to stand still, allowing travelers to immerse themselves fully in the beauty of Hawaii's paradise.
In essence, Makapu'u Point is more than just a destination; it's a sanctuary for the soul—a place where the beauty of nature converges with the spirit of aloha to create an experience that is nothing short of extraordinary. So whether you're seeking adventure, tranquility, or simply a moment of awe-inspiring beauty, Makapu'u Point beckons you to discover the true essence of Hawaii's paradise.Written February 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is a winding scenic road that takes you from the city of Honolulu up to the mountains above the city. Near the summit, turn off and find the Tantalus Lookout. This offers spectacular views of the entirety of Honolulu stretching across the city to Diamond Head. Try to go on a nice day when the sun is shining, and the sky is blue. The drive up takes about 15-20 minutes. I went around 11am on a Sunday morning and had no problems finding a parking spot. Hardly any others there at that time. Apparently, this is a favorite spot for car break ins so don't leave valuables visible, but I had no issues.Written January 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, MN3,477 contributionsThe Pali Highway (Route 61) is a scenic highway that takes you from the center of Honolulu to the windward side of the island as it climbs over the lush and densely forested mountains. Along the route is the Nu'uana Pali Lookout which offers panoramic views of the windward side of Oahu and is the site of the Battle of Nu'uana where King Kamehameha won the struggle to unite the island under his rule in 1795.Written January 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, MN3,477 contributionsThe Kamehameha Hwy otherwise known as Hwy 83 is a terrific drive that takes you from near the Pali Hwy at Kailua up the eastern windward coast of Oahu and up and around the North Shore. Along the way there are a number of scenic spots including Kualoa Regional Park with the Ko'olau Mountains forming the backdrop. This is where Jurassic Park was filmed. Kahana Bay Beach is a beautiful, secluded cove with a sandy beach. Along the North Shore, a world class surfing area in the winter months, you fill find Sunset Beach and Waimea Bay Beach. In the summer when the ocean is calm, Shark's Cove on the North Shore is one of the best snorkeling spots on Oahu. You will also go through the touristy but cool surfer town of Haleiwa. All along the way you will find shrimp shacks/trucks serving up very tasty garlic and coconut shrimp. Honolulu has much to offer but for me the best part of Oahu, is this stretch you can experience when driving along the Kamehameha Highway.Written January 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Money well spent.Written June 2, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
