We came here by metro but were late for cherry blossoms. Saw some plum blossoms and some beautiful flowers. There is a big lake with a beautiful Chinese designed bridge across.

This park is laid out like the garden in the Chinese literary classic, "A Dream of Red Mansions", including many pavilions. It's a relaxing and beautiful place to visit, tucked into a very busy and crowded city. But to me the most interesting part was the Old Gentlemen's Bird Club that meets here daily to give their caged birds "the air" , while the guys pass the time gossiping with each other.

Take subway line 4to Beigongmen, exit A, both buses 331 and 563 from here for 13 stops to Beijing Zhiwuyuan Namen. This is about a 1/2 hour ride.
This enters the Botanical Garden at the southeast gate. Basic entry 10 rmb, can buy combo ticket of 50 rmb for entry into Conservatory and Wofu Temple.
I did not like that many destinations are not listed on the Garden map(you can get a free map in the tourist office just past the entry. The Bee museum and butterfly house are both not listed. Bee museum is free between the Magnolia garden and the Mei flower garden. The Butterfly house is 10 rmb and is across from the Penjing Garden.
I wish I had more time to explore as there was a sign that said "mountain village" when walking from Wofu temple toward the arborium.
Also once you got back to the Cherry Valley area, they had a better map of that section's attractions. I liked the plank walk under the trees, it was very cool on a hot day. They were doing some construction so I could not continue past the 2nd tea house. I don't know if there was another trail leading out the other side of the tea house or not.

This garden is located on the west side of the Palace of Tranquil Longevity. Built by Emperor Qianlong as his personal garden after his abdication, it was also known as Qianlong Gardens. Covering an area of 6400 sq meters, the garden consist of four small courtyards, towers, small hillocks and rockeries, winding paths and planted with pine and cypress trees, bamboo groves and lots of flowers. A lovely garden indeed!

I passed this park many years ago on the way to the railway station, and saw people exercising in the misty early morning. It has taken over 30 years ago to come back for a closer look.
I don't see a basis for the negativity in another review. Maybe this is not an attraction as such, but it is unbeatable for the experience of seeing local people taking their leisure: groups of elderly ladies doing taiji forms, a guy doing interesting things with a rope and a sabre, to one side another group in song, another playing cards, and beyond them couples waltzing.
Even just standing watching and taking in these sights and sounds, you come away with an overwhelming feeling of warm, relaxed benevolence.

Bring your walking shoes! You will walk forever as this wonderful park is huge. Parking is a bit of a problem too so just be prepared to park in sections 14+. Bring sand toys for children as there is a popular area for children with white sand to play in. There is also a sunflower hill that is quite picturesque where your children will get excited and run around. Bring your epi-pen or stay away if you’re allergic to bees. There are numerous trails to get lost in, food and drinks and random attractions such as a bird nest, bridges and the river/lake which surrounds the park. There are some places for children to pet animals for a fee and lastly a nice waterfall. It’s a perfect place to meander and enjoy the day with loved ones.

If you are in Beijing for the summer and want to get out of the city, heading to Yanqing and International Horticultural Exhibition is a good day trip. I like the new Beijing-Chongli Highway option for getting there since there are no trucks on this relatively new highway. There is lots of parking available.
Be prepared to walk. There are lots of places to buy drinks and food inside. In addition to the China Pavilion (with exhibits from all 31 provinces) and International Pavilion, there are also separate traditional garden exhibits for each of China's 31 provinces.
If you like landscaping, flowers, flower arrangements, gardens, etc. this is a fun place to spend a day. You need your passport or ID for entry. Cost is 120 RMB for adults (80 RMB if you are over age 60).
The exhibition is open until October 7, 2019. I would avoid any dates in October when there is a public holiday and lots of people will be visiting.

Yudong Park is also known as Yudong Garden and Yudong Xiaoye Park (Yudong County Park); the later is the park's proper name. For 600 years, this large park has been enjoyed by the Emperors of China and their families, It has always been government operated. It is located next to Beiwu Park and Liangshan Park. The area is famed for being Beijing's most scenic district. The gardens are beautiful. Its waters are connected to the Summer Palace, as the park's outer border is close to the Summer Palace's West Gate and on West Gate Road.
