I enjoyed it. There are very nice restaurants tooWritten January 4, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jbg74Saint Paul, MN1,195 contributionsThis museum is a treasure trove of Russian art by Russian artists. I loved the Vareshchagin hall which included his most famous central Asian paintings of war and death. Many of the most famous Russian paintings are here and there are some spectacular ones. This is one of the best art museums in the world. Vasnetsov's Bogatyrs is incredible. I really liked "The Rooks have Come Back" by Savrasov. There are a bunch of great forest scenes by Shishkin. If you are a Vrubel fan then you have to come here too. This is a definite must-see museum in Moscow. Since it is devoted to Slavic art I would probably rank it the top must-see museum.Written March 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Takarasina2,276 contributionsI criss-crossed that park with my wife in early September. We spent the whole day there.
Yes, it's sort of far from the centre, but the place is easily accessible by subway (really one of the best in the world!) and somewhat less so by car, due to intensive traffic (which is much friendlier on weekends, by the way).
Do choose nice weather, whatever season it is; it's the key to a pleasant stay. We did, and we enjoyed every minute of it!
Kolomenskaya metro station has just been reopened after a thorough overhaul (Kashirskaya too); the highway bordering it on the west is covered with brand-new asphalt; lawns are reformatted; all underground crossings are rebranded. So, the multi-annual renovation had been at last completed, literally just days before.
The park is charming and very well maintained. Key attractions have already been mentioned here, so I'd just add that it's quite often that various zany festivals, festivities, open-air games, etc. are organised there on weekends. Thus, do check in advance on their site (it has an English and even a Chinese page), please.
Parking alternatives are huge, and there shouldn't be any problem leaving one's car there, sometimes even for free.
Due to its enormous size, one may feel that toilet and café/restaurant facilities are scarce in some areas. Do bear in mind. I'd also recommend taking a walk through its distant, wilder part, which is closer to the Moskva River. Privacy will be superb!
Strongly recommended. Just take an umbrella with you and wear comfy shoes.Written September 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - -$@j0Kuwait227 contributionsVery informative and interactive, with all the early space program equipments and devices used still preserved and stored. Gives and great lesson of history and how mankind reached the outer space. It’s takes about 1.5- 2hours to complete the tour and go through everything. Well worth a visit. - jbg74Saint Paul, MN1,195 contributionsThis museum inside the Kremlin has an excellent, varied collection of Russian artifacts - dresses from the Czarina, weapons, armor, Faberge eggs, etc. You will probably have to get a ticket in advance whereas you can easily get into the rest of Kremlin and churches without difficulty the day of your visit. A Kremlin visit is a must-see when in Moscow and this is an important part of a Kremlin visit.Written March 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - saronicZurich, Switzerland29,113 contributionsHardly a visitor to Moscow will not go for a stroll through its most famous street, the first pedestrianised zone of the Soviet Union - since the early 1980's. Traffic from central Moscow around the Kremlin towards the west will now go through the much newer Novy Arbat street further north.
The street, also known as 'Old Arbat', is about a kilometer long and goes from Arbatskaya Square to the west of the Kremlin wall towards Smolenskaya Square by the Garden Ring. With the cobblestones, its triple street lamp posts in retro style and the mostly end of late 19th/early 20th century architecture this makes for a very attractive walk.
Unfortunately - in my eyes - and worse every year, it has also become a very touristy street. Besides restaurants and cafés there are also many souvenir shops, selling Russian dolls, uniforms and hats of the Soviet days and all kind of bric-à-brac. There are portratists and caricaturists, street musicians, beggars, acrobats, people reciting poetry, especially in front of the Monument to the local bard Bulat Okudhzava. There are sandwich men, often from Africa, with advertisement boards in front and back and many persons dressed up in funny ways - such as a giraffe, an ice cream cone, an austronaut or whatever annoying passersby.
Public toilet boxes are available for 50 RUB. At both ends of the street are metro stations: Arbatskaya and Smolenskaya.Written July 20, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
