What travellers are saying
- JosuéSao Paulo, SP23 contributionsBest way to get there was by boat, which cost about 70 reais from Abraão to Pouso beach. It's also one of the easiest destinations to go, considering the amount of companies offering this route. Between Pouso and Lopes Mendes, there's a short hike of about 30 minutes, nothing too complicated but it's part uphill and part downhill, so keep an eye out for some mud spots that can make the path more slippery. It doesn't demand any hiking gear or anything. The beach itself is beautiful and wasn't considered one of Brazil's most beautiful for nothing. Even so, expect minimal infrastructure, only trees as protection from the sun, and close to zero cellphone network coverage. The only person selling drinks and food there struggled to make the card machine work so it's wise to take some cash to pay for stuff. The sea is quite aggressive on the area we arrive in but gets better in the other end, even making up a great snorkeling spot with some marine life to see. Walking there is another 40 minutes or something but it's quite worth it, with an old buoy washed ashore and an abandoned church in the way.Written March 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lucia KRio de Janeiro, RJ135 contributionsLagoa Azul (Blue Lagoon) is that kind of place that once you go, you’ll never forget! Warm deep blue water, clean and flat sea where you can enjoy swimming, scuba-diving, snorkeling or simply buoying! Beeing accessible only by boat, it is almost never crowded, which makes it the perfect beach to relax and enjoy nature! Boats have to be anchored along the coast, respecting the Coast Guard recommendations and rules in order to avoid accidents. It is a safe place to take kids, as long as they know how to swim. It is not proper for young kids. There is no sand, just rocks so, basicaly, people stay on the boat decks having drinks, chatting and jumping into the amazing sea!Written December 15, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - cazaresilMoraga, CA92 contributionsThis is a demanding hike. Since I'm not a sunrise guy, I did it on my own (no guide) starting at a time when there was sufficient light to do this safely. There are a few dangers to keep in mind: taking a bad step that could make you twist an ankle. There are venomous snakes in Ilha Grande and this trail, in particular, feels wild. Dehydration may be an issue depending on the season. I finally started around 6:15am and got to the summit around 8:45pm. I'm probably an above-average hiker, so adjust accordingly. In any case, please activate your GPS and bring an application with a map. Strava worked fine for me. There were a couple of somewhat confusing situations, close to the top, in which Strava really helped. The hike is through the forest 100% of the time, with no views. It's beautiful though. I did not meet anyone in my way up, because most people who do this walk time it to be at the top for the sunrise. At my time of arrival (8:45am) the last group of people from the sunrise shift were departing, so I was on my own at the summit. Incredible views. Honestly, I thought that the sunrise crowd misses this better hour of the day, when the whole horizon is illuminated revealing an endless chain of mountains and bays. Curiously, I met people that were still going up during my descend, which means that they walked at a time when it was considerable hotter. Even though I was there in early August (winter), the temperature was pretty much on the high side. August offers clear, impressive views. It took me about 2:15 to come back. Keep in mind that the trail is in the west side of Abraao, so if your place is in the East side, it's going to take about 40 minutes or more for you to get to the point where the trail really begins.Written August 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alessandra AlliRio de Janeiro, RJ45 contributionsThis is a place you must visit if you are in the island.
The access is by hiking 2,30hrs on a wide road of soil and rocks, from Vila do Abraão.
If you are lucky and the ocean is calm you may find a boat to take you back to Abraão, otherwise you will have to hike back.
But its worth every step. The left side of the beach has a cristal clear water river that ends in the white sands of the shore.
You also have the prison ruins and a museum that is good to visit

- JosuéSao Paulo, SP23 contributionsThe cave is located inside a private property, so there's a 30 reais fee that is paid directly to the owner, on top of the tour price. To get to the cave itself, we need to climb down a ladder and crawl down the cave, which is quite tight and muddy. I advise people to go down with their clothes on and expect them to get dirty, because it's either that or scratching up their backs and shoulders. In the end, there's a little shore coming from down the cave, and reflecting the sunlight from outside. The water is every cold and the waves are quite strong, so we're not allowed to swim and snorkel there. It's a beautiful and unique place, certainly worth the way down there, but it's still not an easy way down and what might stop some people from going.Written March 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - simply-peregrinatingWaddington, UK2,723 contributionsWe were there on a Sunday and it was very busy, many Brazilian families with picnics and lots of cans of beer!! There wasn't a large area of sand exposed but where it was, it was soft and golden with swathes of black. Several rocks and boulders on the beach. The sea was cool to enter then ok.
It's a short stroll from Abraao and there are three or four access points from the path.Written November 21, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
