- ZeehashMississauga, Canada77 contributionsIt was a wonderful trip. Very scenic. We had time to swim at 2 beaches and 3 spots off the boat. Flavia was one of the best tour guides I’ve come across. We were the only English speakers on the tour and she made sure all our questions were answered and we were comfortable. A thumbs up to Paulo the driver who drive carefully and alertly avoiding an accident when a car pulled in front of us.
The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars is that lunch was provided at 5pm when we returned from the boat trip. That was a long time to wait especially as the first hotel pick up was at 6.30. Food was available to buy on the boat but as lunch was included in the price most people didn’t want to. The tour operator was bilingual a d spoke in English too which was really appreciated. We were picked up from our doorstep and taken to Angra dos reis, the islands were amazing. Two things that could have been better are - the washroom in the boat was not cleaned, it would be really helpful especially for women if the washroom could have been cleaned and the buffet included in the trip was given very late and the vegetarian or vegan options were very limited. Both the boat driver and driver were amazing. Lunch was great on the beach. Really an unforgettable experience. - amy c26 contributionsAll the guides seemed great though we interacted with Manual the most since he spoke English. The other guides spoke Portuguese and the other participants were from the area and some had done the tour multiple times.
Manuel was very friendly and upbeat! He was very nice about taking us to the side and explaining things in English and making sure we understood the mechanics. We had kayaked before but not really canoed with a group.
The departure location was changed due to the weather and high waves at the initial site in Barra da Tijuca so it was moved to Marina de Gloria
The tour lists "stops for photos and invigorating dives" so make sure to wear a bathing suit if you want to jump in! And not stated on the tour but I would definitely recommend water shoes or flip flops.

The boat and facilities were clean and working without issues. We had plenty of opportunities to take pictures and record video between all the Rio bay landmarks. The snacks, grilled meats, and drinks provided were delicious and on par with a sit-down establishment. - Rachel THope Valley, UK5 contributionsIlha Grande is a huge nature reserve so I was expecting a nature focussed trip. This was not the tour I was looking for. It was mostly a party on a boat with a big coach trip to get there and back.
Between all the hotel pickups and the admin at the port, it took 5 hours from pickup time to actually getting on the boat. 3.5 hours to get back.
The boat was pirate themed. It had a DJ and a big soundsystem with cheesy dance music and a bar in the middle. In the evening, you could go upstairs where it was quieter but there was no shade so not really a fun option through the day.
On the plus side, snorkeling with the fish in the lagoon was really beautiful. You should definitely pay the extra for the snorkelling kit (or bring your own). The guide was professional and spoke good English (although less clear if you went off script).
The main beach stop was super weird - there are two houses at the back of the beach with big fences to keep the tourists out so you are basically fenced on to the beach.
The food was basic but tasty - buffet with good salads, carbs, a couple of differen chicken stews and some fried fish. For me it was a great day.
