- Monte-Christo37 contributionsMarina Beach in Chennai has all the makings of a spectacular coastal destination—history, stunning sunrises, and the sheer thrill of standing on India’s longest beach. Originally developed in the 1880s during British rule, it was once a pristine stretch of golden sand. Today? Not so much.
The beach is lively, no doubt. The crashing waves and endless horizon are a sight to behold, and the ocean breeze is refreshing. The stretch is lined with food stalls selling everything from spicy sundal to fried seafood, alongside countless vendors pushing plastic toys, balloons, and random trinkets. It’s vibrant but also chaotic.
The downside? Trash. Plastic waste is scattered across the sand, and despite cleanup efforts, it keeps piling up. The number of makeshift stalls and huts also adds to the clutter, making parts of the beach feel overcrowded.Written March 5, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
