This experience completely changed the way I see San Jose. Our group was perfect and small and included myself, my grandmother, and one other tourist. Our guide, Vinny, was an expert in all things San Jose (and Costa Rica overall) and delivered a perfect walking tour of the cultural/political area of downtown SJ. We started with drinks (included!!) at a local bar, then spent roughly 2.5 hours walking at a slow pace throughout the downtown area while Vinny pointed out culturally significant buildings and monuments, before finishing at a wonderful restaurant in Barrio Escalante. Highly recommend if you are interested in learning more about the history of Costa Rica and San Jose and if you are looking to get a feel for what the city is really like.

We had a great day beginning with out tour guide, Gerrardo with Greenway Nature Day Tours. He was on time, picking us up at our hotel in San Jose in a very comfortable Hyundai mid-size SUV. He provided bottled water, and was great in answering our questions along the way about Costa Rican culture, life, and some of the great things Costa Rica is doing, as well as challenges for the future of the country. Gerrardo was also very accommodating, stopping a few times along the way to allow us to take pictures at scenic sights. Once at the site of the chocolate tour and suspension bridge hike, Carolina took over as our guide. She has an undergraduate in biology from the University of Costa Rica. She was very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna, as well as pointing out different insect, amphibian, and tropical wildlife while hiking to the jungle cultivation site. The walk across the suspension bridge was amazing, with wonderful views of the river and the surrounding area. With her co-worker Theresa, they talked us through the traditional method of producing chocolate from the cacao, including cultivation and its historical impact both locally and globally.

I am a big believer in feedback and have written hundreds of reviews all over the world; I hope you find my review helpful.
Our tour exceeded our expectations. Our tour guide was Iva who spoke perfect English and taught us all about the history coffee had on Costa Rica and San Jose... and did it with passion and enthusiasm. We sampled some insanely good coffee and never felt pressured to buy any coffee, however we did purchase some that we sampled. Iva made the tour a highlight of our trip and we came away feeling even more curious and fascinated about coffee. Pura Vida!
