- Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands6,742 contributions25 Minutes by bus from Calle 8 in San José to the last Filtros bus stop at Alajuelito. From there it took me 2 hours to hike up to the Cross (Cruz de Alajuelita). Besides a big metal cross at the summit of the hill there is a plaquette that reads: Cerro San Miguel 2036m. I do not know at what altitude the last bus stop is (perhaps at around 1400m) and at a distance of about 4 km from the summit.
The route is not always marked, but there are lots of locals around to help you find the way. It is not complicated. The road goes up and a certain point also down again, which maybe confusing but at the bottom there is a small trail up again. There are two subsummits with Crosses as well. We’ve learned to trust his recommendations on drinks. We visited the bar every day during our stay.
