We had the good fortune to be the only ones signed up for this trip, so we got a private tour with Ricardo. He was so informative & spoke excellent English. We learned a lot about Costa Rican, history, botany, agriculture, and yes, the volcano.
Poas itself was enveloped in clouds, which we knew was a possibility before we went. We got only a couple of glimpses of the turquoise lagoon in the crater. However, the drive up was beautiful, & Ricardo made an unexpected stop at a coffee plantation, where we got to sample rich Costa Rican coffee (I bought 3 bags).
A final note about the wonderful staff at Poas. There is a Red Cross station there, & one of the volunteers noted my 73 year old husband walking slowly. He offered to drive us to the crater & back, even tho it’s less than half a mile. My husband was very appreciative of his kindness.
