Very beautiful theater. The cafe was good too. Wish we could have done the tour but time didn’t allow. There is a small garden to walk through and a museum close by that you can go through if in the area.

A unique museum with lots of gold and artifacts found in Costa Rica. We learned a lot about the gold and significance of the artifacts. There were some beautiful art pieces to view too.

This museum is an old army barracks. It is filled with Costa Rican history. It takes a couple hours to go through and was very educational.

Great place to eat any typical food, you can find souvenirs at a cheaper price than at the airport. Is a safe place to walk around, although you need to always be careful with your belongings.

Loved it here but only wish more signage was in English. I know it's not an English speaking country but the Gold museum has great interpretive screens with both. They are new however and May still be working on this.

Learned a lot and saw beautiful pieces.

An old airport terminal and control tower repurposed into an art museum. The art collection is small but interesting and includes a sculpture garden. Admittance is free!

We had an afternoon to kill in San Jose before our flights out and picked up some great souvenirs at this central art market. It's well worth a trip if you find yourself in the same situation.

Reviews that say the place is full of tourist tack--you're right! Reviews that say you can find amazing, locally produced souvenirs here--you're right! There is truly the full range of products, from cheesy toucan magnets and every single type of "Pura Vida" t-shirt to original work from artists throughout the country. Our favorite stall was the Artesanias Con Identidad Costa Rica, an artist's collective that features work from over 100 local artists. There are handmade coasters, small painting, crochet and needlework, stained glass, textiles, jewelry--so many one-of-a-kind items. The stall is located fairly deep in the market, but not hard to spot because it features items that no one else has. But no matter what your taste you will find it here!

While in San Jose, my husband and I stopped here. It's open to the public for free; however, donation boxes are around if you choose to donate. It's a clean, beautiful church. My husband was disappointed to find out that the pipe organ is not in use.

It was excellent with 2 qualifiers. It is really for younger kids (8 or under) and most of the exhibitions are in Spainish although many of the guides speak English

ILT transportation services were wonderful. They were kind, helpful and most importantly safe on the roads in Costa Rica. I was very grateful to not have to navigate and deal with the traffic and other drivers. I WILL use them again.

From vividly painted balsa masks to tightly woven indigenous baskets, the array of hand-crafted works offered at Namu are for every curious eye to behold and take home. Sadly, this gallery outlet has fallen victim to escalating focus on progress interests and will be (if not already) sealed away from public access forever, taking with it the much needed financial assistance it provided for the many creative peoples of Costa Rica - most of which relied on for survival. My visit in late 2015 (not 2024) was intentionally driven by my desires as an artist before landing in CR and Namu proved gem worthy, bolstered by its proprietor, Conall French as a bonus as well. After returning home to Oklahoma, I made additional purchases from love of traditional Centro American art alone and treasure those pieces dearly to this day. Losing Namu can be compared to an extinct appreciation of human reason; a trait for all to suffer by as the future unfurls for the few.

If you are looking for the unique souvenir, this is a MUST place to shop. It is a bit of challenge to find because it's so small but so worth the effort! The guys at the shop were so helpful in describing all the local crafts by region! This is a Free Trade shop which is great to support. I found a hand painted vessel, made from the outside of a local fruit. I collect Christmas ornaments from places we visit and this is one I will be using to remind me of Costa Rica.

I highly recommend this museum if you are in Costa Rica. It is well worth it. It has many artifacts, and it also talks about the history of Costa Rica when it began, slavery, coffee fields. The history is from the very beginning of Costa Rica, how it was founded and it does bring you all the way up to present day. This is definitely worth the time to see and it’s only $11.
