- David G4 contributionsWent to the opera, Madam Butterfly, at the theater many years ago. The building is really nice, an historic landmark that is alive today.Written January 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, MN2,142 contributionsThis is an authentic experience. Indoor bustling market in the center of downtown San Jose with vendors selling all sorts of items including fruits and vegetables, flowers, clothing and electronics. This place is filled with locals and tourists like me are few, but I felt comfortable here. There are several places with a counter and seats to grab some food so make sure you take advantage of trying some local fare while here.Written January 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kizzyjennyllanelli108 contributionsA nice park with paved paths, a lake, sculptures made from wood and concrete, sitting areas, a running/cycling track, a snack shack, trees and bushes and amazing birdsong.Written November 15, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kizzyjennyllanelli108 contributionsWell worth a visit during a day in central San Jose, even though it's a 20 minute walk away. Fairly cheap entrance fee. Information is given on the life cycle of butterflies and on the species that they have, If you are also going to be walking in the nature of Costa Rica during your holiday, expect to see the same butterflies many times over in the wild.Written November 15, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LolaGo1Washington DC, DC5,803 contributionsI passed by this huge, beautiful park on my way to the Atlantic Train Station. Located near the National Museum and a small museum for modern arts, it is easy to locate this park. The huge trees and beautiful plants provide shades to those resting at the benches.
Stop by and enjoy its beauty if you’re in the area.Written November 29, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The hiking trails were challenging, but fun, and beautiful. The lookout of the valley and volcanos (if the clouds clear) was gorgeous. We felt secluded and that we could really enjoy the rainforest around us, as there were few people that we met on the trail (and it was a Saturday). Crossing the small streams was fun for us all, and the waterfalls truly were beautiful. Completely recommend for a visit. We spent about 3 hours there, and hiked three of the trails. You actually have to "hike up" to the lookout and beginning of the trails. They offer walking sticks at the bottom - get them! Very helpful, especially for the muddy trail and crossing the streams.
Best surprise of all......we saw a quetzal!!! Such an amazing experience and lifetime memory!Written August 12, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Costa Rica´s Children´s Hospital is financed by the profits of this park. So if you visit, you enjoy and leave a bit of your money for this excellent institution.Written March 4, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Randy M3 contributionsOur driver Robert from I Love Travel met us at the airport and drove us Arenal Springs Resort. He was very nice, and explained all the flowers and provided information about the towns we passed. Even though the roads are very windy we felt extremely safe with him driving. Definitely would recommend using them again. We have already booked them for our return trip.Written January 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - A Midlife AdventureDursley, UK911 contributionsWe were staying in Sarapiqui and so we joined up with an existing group of tourists who had begun their day in San Jose purely to do the boat trip and have lunch.
We arrived at the starting point of the boat trip slightly early but Pedro made us very welcome offering us fresh fruit. He didn’t speak English and for the first time on our holiday I felt awful that I couldn’t communicate with him as he seemed such a friendly man.
Once Jorge turned up with his group of six we were underway with Pedro navigating the boat through the low water levels of the river and spitting wildlife whilst Jorge gave excellent commentary in English. We found the trip relaxing and informative. We were lucky to get to photograph a troop of howler monkeys complete with babies, crocodiles that seemed to approach the boat with interest, a line up of black vultures on a riverside log along with many other birds and the odd iguana.
We then moored at a local finca where a late lunch was served. Traditional buffet style but a lot fresher than we had seen elsewhere and we also got to have a stroll with Jorge around the garden to see some of the many fruits and flowers etc being grown there.
We had to return to our starting point by mini bus as the river level is so low it would have been dangerous for Pedro to take us back on the boat.
Jorge was courteous enough to wait for our transport to arrive before leaving with the group for San Jose which impressed us.

It has stores, cafés, restaurants, services, banks, a supermarket and a food court along with cinemas, all distributed across 4 floors. The stores are somewhat expensive, although you might find good prices sometimes. Bathrooms are located far from the food court and the restaurants, which is uncomfortable sometimes. It is connected to San José by bus lines of Moravia. Is a good place to walk around in a rainy day.Written April 16, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Young S1 contributionMy husband and I have used Didier’s car service for both of our trips to Costa Rica. The first one in September of last year and again this January. Both times we were met with absolutely excellent service from Miguel, Hugo and Didier himself. Didier and his team are super friendly, knowledgeable, and are super passionate about their country and showing it’s overflowing beauty to tourists.
All trips went super smoothly. The vans are super clean, they were all on time and are happy to stop for food/bathroom breaks and animal spottings.
We will be contacting Didier every time we come to Costa Rica and if you want a safe/ friendly/ reliable / good value transport service you should do the same.
Thank you Didier and Pura Vida!Written January 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I then learned about Baqueano for private transportation and contacted them. Spoke with Charles the owner and received a quote instantly at almost one half the other quotes, and accepted the offer. Charles was there for pickup three different times with a great smile. Charles has a lot of Valuable information to share on Costa Rica and where to go and experience.
Thanks so much Charles
