- Lisa GAurora, IN601 contributionsWe only entered the lobby but it is beautiful and worth a quick peek if you are in LA Plaza de la Cultura. The statues are pleasing and the marble floors delightful.Written December 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jim1,561 contributionsThe Museo Nacional De Costa Rica costs USD 11 per foreign adult, and it is a great museum to learn about the history of costa rica. The museum offered a rich collection of artifacts and exhibits, and can easily get you entertained for several hours. Plus, the included bottlefly garden is super fun! If there is only one museum to visit in Costa Rica, we recommend the Museo Nacional De Costa Rica.
Please note that the museum closes on Monday. You may want to plan accordingly.Written October 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I know it's not an English speaking country but the Gold museum has great interpretive screens with both. They are new however and May still be working on this.

It's hard to really describe the drive up; I wouldn't call it a dirt road. it's more like rock with dried dirt from the rainy season. If you come in the dry season, I recommend an SUV, though 4WD is still better. This is the only place we went in Costa Rica where we used 4WD in the dry season. In the wet season, I don't see how you could come here without it.
The park itself is incredible; you hear all kinds of sounds, though I didn't see much wildlife. Something did growl at me, though!
The plant life is incredible. The hike is not as hard as I thought it would be, and Copey was completely worth it. That said, the return hike from Copey was a bit rough for maybe a Kilometer, so keep that in mind.
We got there right at 8am and didn't see another soul again until we were nearing the entrance; even so, there were only 2 other cars in the parking lot. Everyone I did see appeared to be a local.
There are bathrooms at the entrance, but only at the entrance, so be prepared for that.
The staff is very hospitable; the person we encountered did not speak any English, but he spoke very slowly and used the map to tell us a bit about the trail. Between my French and Italian, I understood enough--he was a very helpful person.
Overall, if you are in good enough health and willing to brave the drive, DO NOT skip this! And if you are worried about your ability to do a proper hike, at least go up to Barva; I thought the trail was reasonably easy up to that point.
Be warned, the weather in the area is really unpredictable; we were just barely able to see the laguna, and we got no views at all from Barva. It was still worth it, but mentally prepare yourself for that.Written April 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is a sculpture garden, an indoor exhibit, and the Golden Room which is a room designed from bronze to depict Costa Rican history. Once you’re done you can walk around the National Soccer Stadium Park or head out to the center of San Jose City.Written June 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Iris KWarrington, UK35 contributionsWe were saddeened that there was no lake but this was made up for by the fabulous Museum of Costa Rican ArtWritten February 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DeltagaljudyDiscovery Bay, CA14 contributionsExcellent service. We used ILT Costa Rica for our transfers not for excursions, so I can't review their excursions. But for our transfers they were perfect: on time pickups, clean comfortable vans, friendly drivers. We went from Liberia airport to a resort close to Nicaragua in the north, south to San Jose, and back up to Guanacaste. We even had them pick us and friends and family up from Puerto Caldera after a cruise. Each and every transfer was excellent. Dealing with the booking process was efficient and professional. We would use them again in a snap!Written January 22, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Stefano BCartago, Costa Rica842 contributionsA wonderful place to have a great time with family, friends or business colleagues. We had a great time in a dinner activity organized by the company for which I work for. The others were “special access” which allows you to get into general lines. There is an option for no rides but simply general access to the park. There is a small kid section ages top off at 7-8. There is a spectacular marching band at the end of the day. Fireworks and great food options. One of our was celiac and found enough options. I suggest you don’t stay until they close. Emptying the lot takes 40 minutes—be prepared to wait. Otherwise leave early. Also consider arriving early to park near the exit. Be patient if caught in the exit after 8 pm.Written December 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Wayphian H5 contributionsJen our tour guide was great and extremely informative! We saw some many different birds, insects and trees. The best part was seeing the baby sloth. - Candice G2 contributionsWe can’t thank Costa Rica Shuttle enough for the great service provided! It was so nice and stress free to be met at the airport and whisked away in a beautiful passenger van to our destination an hour and a half away. The day before our flight home, the airline moved departure up by two hours and they kindly accommodated the earlier pick up time. Our driver that day was lovely and stopped along the way to the airport so we could buy some local coffee. So sweet!
All in all a wonderful experience dealing with Costa Rica Shuttle. Communication was excellent every step of the way too!
I highly recommend them.

I had their IPA and was pleasantly surprised at just how well it was made. The food was excellent, I had the Dos Tacos and some fries. Excellent. My friend had the burger and it was delicious as well. I'll be back for sure next time I have to venture into San Jose.Written June 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - A Midlife AdventureDursley, UK2,872 contributionsWe were staying in Sarapiqui and so we joined up with an existing group of tourists who had begun their day in San Jose purely to do the boat trip and have lunch.
We arrived at the starting point of the boat trip slightly early but Pedro made us very welcome offering us fresh fruit. He didn’t speak English and for the first time on our holiday I felt awful that I couldn’t communicate with him as he seemed such a friendly man.
Once Jorge turned up with his group of six we were underway with Pedro navigating the boat through the low water levels of the river and spitting wildlife whilst Jorge gave excellent commentary in English. We found the trip relaxing and informative. We were lucky to get to photograph a troop of howler monkeys complete with babies, crocodiles that seemed to approach the boat with interest, a line up of black vultures on a riverside log along with many other birds and the odd iguana.
We then moored at a local finca where a late lunch was served. Traditional buffet style but a lot fresher than we had seen elsewhere and we also got to have a stroll with Jorge around the garden to see some of the many fruits and flowers etc being grown there.
We had to return to our starting point by mini bus as the river level is so low it would have been dangerous for Pedro to take us back on the boat.
Jorge was courteous enough to wait for our transport to arrive before leaving with the group for San Jose which impressed us.
