SUCH a cool experience. This lake has many (rocky) trails to explore and wonderful scenery and birds to see. Fun watching the ducks & geese in and out of the water. I'm not a skilled hiker, but we walked the many, well marked trails for about 2 hours, stopping to rest and take in the nice breeze. A must-do if you're in the area!

Well worth a tour - it's self-guided and easy to follow. There's a collection of buildings with expertly-curated artifacts starting with the area's prehistoric times, leading visitors through native American presence, the early days of the Arizona territory, statehood, and prominent Prescott citizens, businesses, Prescott Rodeo memorabilia, local milestone events and daily lives. Docents have wonderful stories to tell. There are interactive stations to help young people relate to the exhibits. The gardens - we toured in early spring - are colorful and lovingly tended. Allow at least two hours to experience this gem. Don't miss the Bashford House - on the way to the gift shop inside you'll see some fine examples of Victorian home decór.

Really cool tour of downtown Prescott. Lots of history in AZ's first territorial capital. Tour guide was super knowledgeable. Presented history in a fun way. Lots of interesting stories.

Was here for only a day but managed to visit about 7 different restaurants and bars, also stopped by the whiskey row Harley Davidson shop.
Ended up back at 1 of the bars that had karaoke, which I think a few have. There was also a SpeakEasy hidden in the area of whiskey row. We also went to an Italian restaurant. Also a Irish bar and tex mex for lunch. So much fun

We did the roughly three mile hike around the lake and enjoyed it. The path to the west of the lake between parking lots is paved, the trail on the east side is more rugged, but flat. you do have to cross a small creek to do the full circuit which can be tricky. There is some confusion if hiking counterclockwise on the trail because you must pass by a KEEP OUT sign to continue on the trail near the north parking area.

My wife and I visited the Museum of Indigenous People (formerly known as the Smoki) during a recent Prescott vacation.

My wife became a member of this museum in 2023, and up until this first visit, I had never been. This is a cute little museum featuring native artifacts and printed native stories and mythology. It also has a cool gift shop/area.

Not knowing what to expect or how long it would take to tour, the words cute and little are very appropriate. But a $10 admission is a small price to view all of the artifacts on display. Memberships are also very reasonable.

This museum (much like the larger Heard Museum in Phoenix) hosts all kinds of annual events. If you enjoy your visit, stay in touch via their website so you won't miss out on all of the cool native happenings!

We arrived here before 11 a.m. on a Sunday morning. The trailhead is located about 2 - 3 miles from Prescott, just off a main highway. There is a sizeable parking lot which charges $3 per day. There is also a bike repair station and restrooms at the trailhead.

We walked for about an hour. You first head downhill to the lake level and spend the first 1/3 mile or so getting to the lake. You then hike along the lake until a spur trail offers the opportunity to hug the shoreline and scramble over some rocks. It wasn't too challenging, but it was also not a completely level trail.

The scenery is nice - the lake, odd boulder formations, occasional wildlife (including a bald eagle!), some ranchers fixing a fence just off one trail, and a fair number of bikers (both manual and electric) on the main trail.

This was a worthwhile stop and we all enjoyed our hike here.

Nice small zoo with a variety of mostly local wildlife. Looks like it gets a lot of love from local school and day camp kids. It was a hot day when we went but we still saw most of the animals. Tarantula Grotto, snake shed, and tortoises were highlights.

Stopped by at the recommendation of a friend. Not a big fan of western art but this little museum was worth the stop. Not just kachinas...had a short term photography exhibit which was very interesting. The permanent exhibits taught me things I didn't know. Well worth the stop.

We got lucky and hiked the Thumb Butte area the day before they closed Prescott & Coconino National Forests due to fire danger. They were evicting campers & hikers, and cancelling future camping reservations. Be sure to check before you go.

However, after a long morning hike we could see why -- the ground is cracked and dry, the forest is brown. Prescott desperately needs rain.

Once it reopens, its worth a visit if you like to hike. Lots of trails and unless you insist on doing one of the super popular ones, you won't see many people.

NOTE: There is a $5 day pass fee collected in the parking lots. Be prepared with correct change and a pencil to write with; you must leave your receipt on your dashboard.

Fantastic hike with great views all the way up and down. Left hand side of trail is paved to the top but is steeper than the non paved path to the right. Side trail near the top is worth it for the fantastic view of Prescott and the surrounding area.
