Elena did an amazing job showing us her hometown and other villages by the Lake Atitlan! She’s very friendly, knows a lot of history and speaks perfect English. We took three boat rides, saw three towns and had two meals- each experience was wonderful, we also a stopped at the Cacao shop and local textile factory. 8 hours plus 4h driving but what a day! Worth every penny!

Our tour guide, Louis was fabulous and so informative. He taught us and demonstrated how different coffee beans grow. The travel vehicle was comfty. Loved the stop at the weavers, where we learned how cotton is transformed into yarn using natural plants for dye. Overall, fabulous day trip!

This was such a horrible “tour” I wish I could give it 0 stars.
After being picked up, I discovered that the driver of the van did not speak English and while the tour guide Gustavo did, he still addressed the group in Spanish because apparently the rest of the people already on the van were bilingual. I had to interrupt Gustavo to tell him that I didn’t speak Spanish and that this was supposed to be an English speaking tour. After that, Gustavo never really addressed the group as a whole again as I would have expected him to do on our way to Lake Atitlan. I have taken several tours all over the world and every tour guide I have had before Gustavo would sit at the front of the van or bus and explain the history of where we were going and something about the country itself. Gustavo simply sat in the van silent like he was on vacation himself.
My 3 friends and I were the last to be picked up and although Gustavo had notified me the night before of the pick-up time, he was 30 minutes late. After getting a late start, we hit some traffic leaving the city that caused us to be even further behind schedule. After the traffic cleared and knowing that we were now behind schedule, instead of continuing on to Lake Atitlan, Gustavo had us stop for breakfast for 1 hour. This was not mentioned in the tour’s itinerary and was a ridiculous waste of time in light of the fact that we were already running very late. I could only guess that Gustavo was hungry and was going to get a free meal at the restaurant.
In any event and after breakfast, we hit more traffic making us fall even further behind schedule but again, instead of talking to us and enlightening us on where we were and where we were going as any decent tour guide would do, Gustavo went to the back of the van to an empty seat and took a nap.
We pretty much drove in silence all the way to Panajachel . When we got off the van, Gustavo led us to the waiting boat that looked like it was 50 years old and informed us that we didn’t have time to tour the lake or go across it to Santiago de Atitlan but would be visiting another village instead, that is, San Antonio Palopo. Basically, this meant that the tour that I took my 3 friends on and paid for was not anything close to what was described in the itinerary for this tour. At that village, we visited a store for shopping and walked up to a church. It was ridiculous. I did not have to pay over $100 per person to see and do what we did at this village. Again, Gustavo did not tell us anything about the village, its people or the church.
After spending about an hour at this village, we returned by boat to Panajachel where we were told we would have 1 ½ hours for dinner. This was insane. We paid to tour Lake Atitlan and now we were instead going to spend another 1 ½ hours to eat after already spending an hour for breakfast. Any decent tour guide would have addressed the group and inquired as to what we wanted to do in light of the fact that we were running behind schedule and ask us whether we preferred to spend another 1 ½ hours eating or stick to the itinerary and tour the lake and visit Santiago de Atitlan as described in the printed itinerary. I am confident that my fellow travelers would have opted for a tour of the lake as promised instead of taking the time for another meal as everyone seemed to be upset by this change in plans.
After we had our dinner, Gustavo informed us we could have an additional ½ hour to explore Panajachel but according to the itinerary described on your website, we were to “stroll down Santander Street in Panajachel with our local guide.” Another description in the website’s itinerary that was never delivered.
I blame the tour guide for the decisions he made. He obviously only cared about himself and never for a moment had our best interests at heart. The tour that I paid good money for was a waste as nothing that was described in the itinerary was delivered. Additionally, I was embarrassed in front of my friends because I had picked this horrible tour.
I have been a huge fan of Tripadvisor for several years and I cannot emphasize enough how horrible this tour was and how disappointed my friends and I were.

The Indian Nose (Rostro Maya) Sunrise Hike was an awesome experience. Vick was an excellent guide. He picked us up promptly at our designated pick-up spot, transported us to the trailhead, and guided us to the summit. We enjoyed some coffee and bread as we took in the views and an amazing sunrise overlooking Lake Atitlán. Vick provided factoids along the way about the lands we were hiking through and a general lay of the land once at the summit. I would highly recommend Vick as your guide for this unique experience.

We had an amazing time with authentic Guatemala tours, Fabio took care of us every step of the way. He led us to knowledgeable and accommodating guides. We felt safe and taken care of all thru out. We live in NY, were used to good accommodations and authentic Guatemala delivered above and beyond.

We really enjoyed our time with David. He introduced us to knowledgeable guides who taught us about traditional Mayan chocolate making, traditional Mayan spinning, dyeing and weaving and bee keeping and preservation. He shared some words from his native Mayan language with us and showed us how to recognize genuine handicrafts.

No problems with round transport and hike was short yet extremely satisfying, with an excellent view of the sunrise and the lake at the top where we were given some coffee.

100% recommended but would suggest backpackers to book the tour from Atitlan as it is easily half the price and they are always available!

No need to buy the ticket in advanced as there are shuttles every 20-30 minutes between Antigua and Panajachel. Not the most comfortable if you are a huge person . Stop once for bathroom break

The guides were awesome. Came to our hotel and helped us navigate the water taxi type transportation to cross the lake. We did ask for a later start time which they agreed to but once on the lake it was very choppy and I was told that was because of the later start time. It would be nice if they had told me that because had I known that I would have stuck with the earlier start time.

The lake was beautiful, the beach we landed on was very nice too. There are vendors there so bring $$ if you want to shop or buy snacks. The guides stayed with us while kayaking and helped us maneuver the waves. They did not have the right amount of kayaks though and tried to put my husband and I in a double which was a disaster! Ultimately they were able to get us singles from another location. The trip had to be shorter which was fine by us, the choppy lake made for an intense workout after about 2 hours!

All in all the day was very good. We would definitely recommend this company. just keep in mind things are very laid back and timing is all relative. Ask questions, be prepared because unlike the states safety is not the number one concern. I say this not to deter anyone but because all of my concerns would have been sorted out before we came if we were in the states but things are very relaxed in this little water front town so be prepared for it, go with the flow and enjoy the beauty of the lake and nature!

Henry is amazing! This man is a trip lol he is very interesting to listen to and is a wealth of knowledge about his beautiful country. I couldn’t find a more proud Guatemayan person! The hike is relatively easy but challenging at times. be ready to laugh and learn as he walks you through the history. His English is pretty great!

A little more detail about the Hike, because I didn’t know what to expect and I couldn’t find it in the reviews. if you don’t live in San Pedro, you can coordinate a pick up with Henry with a private boat, relatively cheap, considering they’re picking you up at 3:30 a.m.. you will get to San Pedro around 4 AM and then you will get in a shuttle that will drive for about 30 minutes up the mountain. It will drop you off on a little village and you will start your hike. There are three stops in the Hike where he will use them as a rest stop as well as teaching moments. You will reach the peak of the hike around 5:40 AM. (If the hike was nonstop it would take like 45 minutes to an hour) the peak is absolutely breathtaking and he takes some pretty good pictures! The back down is a lot easier. Please note that Hike up will be in the dark and requires you to be careful where you step and have some free hands as there are times you have to pull yourself up with the rope (you don’t need major upper body strength) it would be great to bring a little flashlight to put on your forehead.
