What travellers are saying
- cafowler (Don't Use)22 contributionsThe size of the waterfall is impressive as is the volume of water (even more so with the colored snow) . Fantastic viewing platform but walk not easy for those with mobility issues.Written May 13, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- cafowler (Don't Use)22 contributionsGreat location and views over Lake Myvatn. Water temperature not consistent throughout pool but hotter nearer bar.Written May 13, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- biebieStevoort, Belgium23 contributionsThe way to Askja is very beautifull. In august '21 still snow on the last part to go on foot.
It feels like you are in another world.Written September 29, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - SwissMissSpokaneWASpokane WA92 contributionsThe path out to the lava field is pleasant. There are some geothermal pools at the viewing stand. Then you an opportunity to walk out through the lava field. The lava field is rough walking, but it's really worth seeing. It's quite other-worldly.Written September 18, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Neha JNew Delhi, India48 contributionsIt’s beautiful and vast. We stayed close to the lake. It was snowing and white all around the lake was frozen at some points (the periphery) the water is so so clear and blue!Written October 20, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- TeachingTiggerTravelsWells, UK32 contributionsRight next to the car park, its a 15 min stop if you want to wander into the cave take a few photos, clamber along to the other end and then snap a couple more shots and emerge into the sunlight. Torch not needed but can help as your eyes adjust to the darkness.
You can dip your hands (but certainly not swim) in the clear water as the steam rises around you.
Just a handful of other souls there in early April, but I wouldn't want to have to que or visit in high season, try again when there are less people around.Written April 7, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Michael D60 contributionsAmazing place but you have to get used to the smell. A clear path is marked to ensure safety. Seeing bubbling hot mud and steam vents was awesomeWritten April 27, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Alex FThe Villages, FL1,170 contributionsThis area consist of various trail to take, well marked and most covered in asphalt. This last, makes it easy with walking impediment to visit the area. Once completed, you may visit a restaurant and souvenir shop nearby.Written April 27, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- cafowler (Don't Use)22 contributionsThis volcano dominates the local landscape and the climb to the top is worth the effort. The road to the car park is very bumpy and challenging but the car park is in good order.Written May 13, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- NomadicTraveller7Fuerteventura9,659 contributionsIt is well worth visiting Viti crater, with its 300 metre wide aquamarine crater lake. You can walk all the way round the rim but this is not necessary as the first viewpoint gives you a very good view and idea of the size.Written October 2, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Travel-1-FactsVancouver, British Columbia, Canada280 contributionsThe Lava Center has a film, and then large rooms with exhibits. They also have a cafeteria with good food and drinks, including liquor of various types.
The gift shop was one of the best we saw in Iceland, after making many tourist stops around the country.Written September 5, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - SESNoVAAnnandale, VA401 contributionsThis small museum has carefully mounted birds from all over Iceland. A great spot to see how many you've already identified as well as to figure out what those little birds in the lake as you entered the museum were (phalaropes).Written October 27, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Vickie VAustin, TX152 contributionsThe visitor center had interesting exhibits and helpful staff. It's right next to where the Ring Road tees. Left is the lake, right is the village and visitor center. A cooperative handcraft shop is next door with a great selection of lopapeysas.Written July 4, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Tissa.travelsRotterdam, The Netherlands2,202 contributionsTo start of, this place stinks. But in a good way. The colours are wonderful and the lava fields make you feel you're on another planet. The sulfur fuming from the earth makes it smell like rotten eggs a bit, but that's just part of the experience.Written April 20, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Stefanie HLincoln, NE1,328 contributionsThe visitor center was closed due to Covid; however, there were displays outside that explained how the power station works. The station is huge, but the visitor center isn't marked very well. Just head to the two large buildings! There is an overlook of the entire valley, and if you continue up the road, you will come to the Viti Crater. This is a very interesting area!Written July 29, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
