- Jonathan DNorwich, UK203 contributionsI was given a guided photo afternoon as a birthday present, so I didn't know what to expect, but what a wonderful place!
There is a reception hut where you can buy warm drinks (tea, coffee etc), and snacks (crisps, ice cream and biscuits). The welcome was efficient but friendly.
For this particular 'experience,' a little truck pulls a roofed trailer around the 170 acres of land, stopping at various places to photograph the animals. The guide was very knowledgeable and would answer any questions. There was a walkie-talkie on the trailer so we could hear as we were going around.
As with any wildlife park, it can be a bit hit-or-miss as to which animals and birds decide to come out into the open, but there was certainly time (3 hours) and enough animals to see. At each stop, we were given plenty of time to get out to photograph the animals. Our group saw a lot!
I would love to go again soon!
*Technical note - photographers: A 80-200 zoom lens, or similar is plenty as animals weren't shy, and several came close to the trailer.Written October 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bexy81St. Albans, UK331 contributionsAbsolute gem of a place. Firstly it was so nice to be able to take our dog into the priory and surrounding walk. Parking was excellent onsite by the shop, wonderful customer service from the lady who went out of her way to tell us about the priory it's buildings and advice on a walk to a stream.
It's a lovely walk and is exposed to the elements, so if like us, it was a lovely hot sunny day, make sure you wear a hat! Lots of pockets of space for picnics which I think would be something I would of done as the views are perfect.
After our walk we then took the trail thru the fields towards the church and pub.
It's worth the price as the upkeep of the grounds, though if you are a English Heritage member you get in for free.Written June 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Spent a lovely couple of hours meandering over the bridges and even spotted a kingfisher from the hide. Tea room offers a small selection of snacks and drinks and seems like a step back in time, in a good way.Written September 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - algernon204London115 contributionsIt looks as if it could be a converted chapel but we were told it is the original cinema building. Still independent and worth popping into the foyer.Written September 19, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jow2006Bristol, UK66 contributionsLovely, friendly village pub with a lovely garden and rooms. We have stayed a couple of times over last year as it is near to family. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Will no doubt stay again in the future as would not look anywhere else. Good value for money with a good breakfast included.Written October 27, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ClaireKing's Lynn, UK77 contributionsI treated myself to a 60 minute pedicure. If you sign up for the mailing list on the website you get 25% off a treatment so it should've cost ÂŁ30 but it was ÂŁ22.50 which I thought was great value.
The girl who did my pedicure was very friendly, I'm sorry I didn't get her name. We chatted and she put me at ease.
They are doing some work at the entrance to the gym so from yesterday to get to the gym people were having to go through the spa. I understand this is probably unavoidable & temporary but there were a lot of people wandering around getting lost and the girl doing my treatment had to keep stopping to point people in the right direction. The pedicure was done in a kind of side section of the hallway. Normally I guess this would be in a quiet area but it's now fully on show from people going to and from the gym which made it a lot less relaxing and I did feel like I was on show a bit. Even I pointed people in the right direction at times! I think due to the current situation it would be best to move the nails section into an actual treatment room to make it more relaxing and private. Otherwise though it was great, I was offered a complimentary tea or coffee, and you get to take away the bottle of nail varnish to make touch ups which is a good touch. Really enjoyed my experience, it was just a shame about the added noise and footfall through what should be a zen space.Written May 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Neil SBracknell, UK161 contributionsWe enjoyed the company of the other travellers, sharing banter with the head guide and his driver. The views as we travelled across a lot of England and Scotland where often breath taking. Highlights where Hey Castle, the Jacobean and Dram Tram. The trip back from John O'Groats, taking in the highland scenery was at times spectacular, made better as the sun shone at times. But it was a long trip and meant a late-night dinner. Running the trip in the opposite direction may have been better, allowing more time at john O'Groats and an earlier finish as not tied to train times, and the train trip would have been in daylight. It was a good way of seeing a lot of Scotland in 4 days and providing ideas for a follow up trip.Written September 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Carl HSpalding, UK1 contributionA send off for a former colleague. The crew were patient, organised, professional and obliging for our gana of 20. A little advance notice and they couldn't have been more welcoming, the drinks are worth every penny, top quality products and preparation.Written September 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sarah TLeicester, UK11 contributionsFantastic tour, the guide was full of knowledge and showed us into and around some great buildings, we would have otherwise not have noticed. - Andrew S1 contributionWhat a fantastic experience! We set out at full sail towards the Wash with skipper Howard at the tiller. As we got to the Babbingly River inlet, he let me take over (under his close supervision). It was very exciting (but dont give up your day job!!). Then we were able to watch the colony of seals basking and bobbing around in the water before turning back towards Lynn. It was a great and unique experience and it's all run by volunteers. Brilliant!! We will definitely go again!Written July 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
