We saw a junior Humpback whale and a Grey whale while we were out. This was my first whale watching trip, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but seeing them in person was quite impressive. - Lisa Z1 contributionOverall a very good experience on our round trip ride to and from Catalina Island. The check in process was a little confusing upon arrival but once they started getting everyone lined up it was smoother after that. Make sure to tell them if you upgraded to VIP, since they didn’t have it by your name at check in nor did they direct you to the VIP section so we did not get to take advantage of that on the first trip. Due to seasickness we ended up staying on the lower level anyway so not worth it if you think to will experience sea sickness. Due to high winds coming in later that day we had to return 2 hours early for safety but they were very up front about it and said if that wasn’t going to work for your plans they would give a refund and/or reschedule. The crew was all very friendly and accommodating. We had a bumpy ride on the way out there so a lot of the people were experiencing sea sickness but they walked around offering bags and kept the bathrooms clean. We were very lucky to come across some whales and dolphins so the captain let us stop in neutral and go out on the bow to see them which was a fantastic experience. The trip back was right on time and smoother waters thanks to leaving before the weather moved in. I would use this service again but pass on the VIP upgrade. Saw a minky whale, sealions and a nursery pod of dolphins. Surf comp at huntington beach also. Tom gave us all the good pointers on our trip, and even dropped you off where you wanted to go back in Anaheim. - Bert D1 contributionTook my 9 year old Grandson on his 1st small plane flying experience. He truly enjoyed the experience. The smooth flight and the spectacular views are what amazed him the most. But the excellent tour guide/pilot made it perfect. My Grandson sat up front and was asking questions constantly about various sights, which were always addressed quickly by our pilot. My Grandson’s only complaint was the minor popping in his ears during the descent. But he said the same thing when we come down from the mountains, so obviously not a Joy Air problem.
From my perspective, the sights were also grand. Lots of memories from over 50 years living and driving around So. Cal. Amazing changes all around.
It was a fantastic day.

- TLO_RHRock Hill, SC132 contributionsThis was the best whale watching tour we have ever done, and we have done quite a few. Captain Nick did such a great job creating a fun and exciting time. The smaller boat gave us such a huge advantage to follow the whales and cover more area to look for whales over a larger area. The boat is set up perfectly for whale watching... even down to seats that absorb the impacts of the waves. We really appreciated the fact that Nick was very knowledgeable about where the whales may be and worked hard to find them. He is also very knowledgable about whales and shares so much info about them. It was so amazing to see a thin whale, dolphins, and a pair of orcas! We would recommend this to anyone looking to do whale watching! Absolutely stunning beaches (including Laguna, Huntington, Balboa, Newport…and more!), interesting facts/history about the cities and landmarks, and so much fun!!! Our waitress kept asking us what we would like for our first course after informing us that there were no choices as they were out of everything but the bisque. We received our entrees minutes before we pulled into the doc at the end of the trip.
