What travellers are saying
- njgrampsNJ317 contributionsWe arrived here oin a chilly Sunday morning and were pleasantly pleased with the property. It has several attractive features - nature walks, a small l farm and a small museum inside the former Bendel summer mansion. There were a few animals of each variety - cows, chickens, goats, pigs and sheep. They appeared to be well cared for. The cows included two heirloom species which looked unlike any other cows I have ever seen. It was too chily for any exteded nature walks. The museum had a display of an obscure artist's work of varied quality. This would be a great place to spend more time in warmer weather. Don't miss the small buildings housing small animals, reptiles and insects.Written January 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John LFairfield, CT416 contributionsOur first time at the theater and it was a great experience. Cast for Into the Woods was excellent given that this is a small local theater. Not a bad seat in the house.Written March 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Carol M11 contributionsA beautiful theatre with welcoming, friendly and accommodating staff. Disability accessible. We saw the Buddy Holly Story there in November 2022. The disability headphones worked perfectly and the sound was crystal clear. I wish it weren't so far away from my home, or I would be there on a regular basis. They have a nice variety of entertainment from plays to concerts.Written December 16, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kate R.Brooklyn, NY88 contributionsWe came specifically to see the inside of this Church but there is no way to park there.
Very sorry. It's huge from outside and looks very beautiful but we weren't lucky to get inside.Written August 16, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I visited on May 5th and was treated to a 1.5 hour personal tour by Taras Galonzka. In our conversations we learned that his parents and my grandparents were from the same area of eastern Galicia which became part of western Ukraine. The museum, originally built in 1833, is beautiful inside and out. They have rooms full of Ukrainian art, manuscripts, attire, pysanka, furniture, wood carvings, musical folk instruments, etc. Many pieces of art are from the 12th and 13th century. They have several manuscripts that pre-date the printing press by a couple hundred years.
Their days and hours of operation are limited and a bit erratic, so call ahead. They hope to open more days and for longer periods of time shortly. Their website is not updated regularly but does have additional information.Written May 6, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Great for strollers, walkers, runners and dog walkers. They also have a few beaches. One that drops into Holly Pond (which is otherwise not accessible to the public).Written June 23, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SueL41589Ashford, CT477 contributionsThis lovely church was an unexpected treat. Built in the shape of a fish, with slate “scales” on the outside where there is no stained glass, the church invites you into a contemporary feel of a cathedral. The Church was built on 7 acres and dedicated in 1958. The central part of the sanctuary has large stained glass windows that would more appropriately be called walls as they go from floor to ceiling.
The chancel not only houses the pulpit and lectern (both shaped almost like the bow of a ship), but a communion table, a 32 foot cross and the organ console as well as the choir loft. It would be remarkable to hear an organ, choir concert in this church.
Leading up to the church is what they call the Memorial Walk displaying more than 100 stones each commemorating one of the spiritual giants of the Judeo/Christian tradition from the days of Abraham to the present.
It was a wonderful experience to spend a relaxed time discovering this beautiful place of worship.Written September 21, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are a bunch of guys babysitting while there wives are shopping /traveling who are playing with their kids while sipping beer with their friends. They aren't getting drunk, just hanging out. It is safe, comfortable, and the beer is excellent. They also have wine if that is your thing. Bathrooms are in a clean trailer within 50 feet.Written December 17, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Adventure DivaManchester, CT1,913 contributionsThere are over ten gardens for you to discover and enjoy in nature. Seeing various and unique plant species is like experiencing a living classroom. Walking trails will take you through the picturesque gardens. Trails are also perfect for children (and dogs) of all ages.Written August 18, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve OJackson, NJ381 contributionsStopped here for a hike on my way back home and found really nice trails and a gorgeous river. Parking was a bit tight, and someone else who parked near me came back to find their window smashed and wallet stolen - I’m not a local so this may have been completely uncharacteristic, but it still worried me a bit. Otherwise, a great experience it’s a gorgeous area definitely worth a hike.Written October 16, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I believe they had 7-8 beers total to choose from mostly ales, 2 fruited sours and a stout. The staff was very friendly. They are a very small indoor space so it may be tough to find seating on the weekend. Very dog friendly as well and they are OK if you bring your own food. They also have a few large screen TVs and will likely have it tuned into a game.Written January 6, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Holley-7Rio Rancho, NM299 contributionsStopped In without an appointment but found the folks to be very helpful and informative. We offered up our information and they appreciated it and made us feel like it was important. We spent over 2 hrs. there and never felt rushed or pushed out. If you are doing any family history, we certainly would advise stopping here! Thank you folks!Written October 17, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- AlanBartlettBuffalo, NY251 contributionsThe gallery has high-end art. The paintings are wonderful as are the sculpture pieces. It is expensive, but if you appreciate art, just browsing is well worth it. The gallery is easy to find and in a booming area of the "city."Written April 6, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
