What travellers are saying
- 46oceangirlWestford, MA1,715 contributionsThis park is huge. You pay per person, $9 for the two of us. Free to park. We went right and sat at the beach for a good 4 hours. Yes there is seaweed on shore but the water is clear and warm. To go to a bigger beach, go left to Sandspar, the better of all the beaches. More sandy bottom, sand, less seaweed onshore. Bigger area to spread out and not sit on other people. They have a snack shack, bathrooms etc. You can launch paddleboards, kayaks and a lot of people snorkeling. It was a great way to spend a few days by the water in the keys!Written March 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Swift-OhioHudson, OH324 contributionsVery worthwhile and great if you like the outdoors.
I highly recommend visiting the Visitor's Center first. You can get a map, chat with the staff, and get recommendations (and hit the bathroom; there are none on the trails). You have to then drive to the various trailheads (none at the Center).
The two best are Blue Hole and Watson & Manillo trails. They are just down the road from each other. There is a short trail at Blue Hole, around the pond. Saw alligators there. The other two trails come off the same parking lot. That is where we saw a key deer, it just was by the trail, a couple of feet away. Also a lot of interesting plants.
The trail on No Name Key is not well marked and it just kind of goes off into the brush. We hiked it for a half mile or so, and just came back. Not sure what we were supposed to see here and where it goes.
The trail on Long Beach Road is only slightly better marked. It is a very interesting area; saw some birds and very interesting plants. It was muddy in spots, but then unfortunately just kind of disappeared (I think it was overgrown). Not very well maintained.Written January 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There were two alligator hanging out below the platform to watch. We also saw two species of water fowl.Written February 28, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Bebigirl424Woodridge, IL231 contributionsPros: lots of parking, beautiful view of the bridges, a few "cabanas with picnic tables": restrooms and outdoor showers and spigots to wash off your feet
Cons: not a lot of sand.Written June 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. On my next trip to Big Pine , I will definetly return.Written July 18, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - travelingmom1220Clemson, SC4 contributionsWhile visiting the Keys, we stopped at this roadside visitor center for advice. We were headed to visit Key West and wanted to know a few places to visit as well as a restaurant for lunch. The lady working gave us great recommendations. You can also book tours here but she was no-pressure about these. The restaurant she recommended was amazing! Delicious seafood at the marina.Written March 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- brad0260Minneapolis96 contributionsWe went on a tour of Grimal Grove—learned about its unique history—and the variety of tropical trees there. Sara was our guide—she was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, a fun tour leader! She gave us a number of samples to taste of tropical fruit grown in the Grove—as well as a taste of the Mutiny Vodka now made from Grimal Grove breadfruit! The hour and a half simply flew by. Don’t miss this unusual and fascinating tour!Written February 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- riverspiritsAthens, AL113 contributionsWith the support of Underseas Dive Shop, Keys Huka Dive Center, and Looe Key Dive Center, we did our deep / wreck dive for our Advanced Open Water certification. It was a great dive site - excellent experience!Written October 14, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - No namePhiladelphia, PA1 contributionDepends on what you are looking for. There's clothing, t-shirts, fresh produce and some snacks/drinks. My fav was the mini donuts made right in front of you. Lots of fishing stuff and other hardware, flea market items. A turn off was the political rhetoric one vendor tried to engage in. No-one wants to be asked about their political beliefs at this kind of a setting. Another had Trump signs all over, time to move on from 2020.Go there to check it out, personally I won't go back.Written February 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Yvonne C148 contributionsIt was fascinating seeing all the sea life during low tide. We walked hundreds of feet across the water before our dogs started getting cold so we had to turn back. Very fun experience.Written February 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- stijntaillyWaregem, Belgium312 contributionsEasy, short gravel loop trail off Key Deer Boulevard on Big Pine Key, in the area where Key deer are found. The 1-mile loop goes through pine and palm habitat that (for now?) is saved from development, giving a good idea of how the rest of the Florida Keys looked before people flowed in. There's an overlook platform (of sorts) halfway that is built over a small body of water. This hike is not shaded, so beware of the sun during the hotter months of the year (which is pretty much all year long in the Keys, I suppose).Written January 10, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Richard B1 contributionThis place is worth the trip. We saw some cool birds, iguanas, an alligator, and a deer. They are hard to see in the trees, so binoculars are great to have. Also, avoid the poisonwood trees on the trails.Written February 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
