- Elaine M23 contributionsWe arrived late morning and there was no parking in main parking lots. So we parked in the overflow parking. It was a little confusing but once we got to the ticket office was less confusing. We thought we were already onsite bit the homes were across the street. Some pretty views onto the water. The homes were nice to visit and see what the rooms looked like back in the day. I really enjoyed the museum so interesting on learning both there lives and inventions.Written March 13, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Toni TNashville, TN7,676 contributionsThis science and history museum has all the makings of a great museum but several exhibits were not working. I enjoyed the Seminole history exhibit and the tortoises. The sting ray tank is a great interactive experience. I like that native Florida plants are included.
The tribute to 911 World Trade Center attacks includes a chunk of the foundation from the World Trade Center, worth a visit, especially as it is in front prior to paying admission.
I feel that the price is slightly high considering that several exhibits are not working.

The park has several places to see and visit. There is a large parking lot so parking should not be a problem. The Railroad Museum and railroad are to the right as you enter. The museum is hard to miss as there is a large railroad engine visible from the parking lot that is across the walkway from a large building that houses the museum. The museum is inside a building behind the jungle gym next to the parking lot. The museum is free. It is a large room with several operating scale trains running around the center and near the roof. There is at least one hands-on display that you can see the operating console for an engineman. There are lots of informational displays situated around the room describing the history of trains and the railroad museum. There is a lot to read and a lot of history associated with trains, Florida, and the Fort Myers area. If you have a chance, I highly recommend spending a few dollars and getting a ticket to ride the train right outside the museum. For any train enthusiast this is a must-see in the area.Written April 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CaptTroubleHudson, WI7,826 contributionsThis art center in Downtown Fort Myers is a 23,000 square foot Neoclassical Revival building built in 1933 on the site of the old fort. The columns on the front are made of limestone from the Florida Keys and the walls are embedded with coral and sea shells. I've never seen anything quite like it; it is very eye-catching!
In 1960, the building was converted into a Federal Court House, but in 1998 it was abandoned. It then suffered a lot of damage and many of the original fixtures were removed or destroyed. In 2003, a not-for-profit organization obtained a 99 year lease from the city and began renovations. In 2007, Berne Davis pledged $1 Million for restoration and the name of the building was changed in honor of the family's contribution. This is when renovation of the first floor began.
By the end of 2008, 10,000 square feet of the building had been restored. Another grant of $650,000 was received in 2012, and those renovations were completed in 2014. The building is currently used for arts education, music lessons, lectures, art exhibitions, and independent film screenings.
The enormous luminaria in the front of the building are lighted at night and are spectacular to see and walk around. They are covered in cut out words that narrate a story, and the words fall on the building and all around.
Its a spectacular building to see and it is wonderful that it was rescued.Written August 30, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Steven was The Best! He always looked out for our best interest and made sure that everything we needed was taken care of throughout the entire trip even to the smallest details. Our trip was during the last 2 weeks of October 2015 so there were short rainstorms every day which only lasted for 30min to 1 hour. We seemed to get lucky with no rain on the days we went Chimpanzee and Gorillas trakking, which I'm so grateful because the main reason for taking this trip was to photograph the wildlife. This was my second time in East Africa and to see all of the Animals with my own eyes roaming freely was absolutely amazing! We paid extra to do the chimpanzee habituation experience in Kibale National Park which was worth every penny. We hiked for almost 2hrs to get to the chimpanzees and because we signed up for the habituation experience, we were able to be amongst the chimpanzees for a good solid 2hrs. The gorilla tracking was even more outstanding! Due to the water damaged roads to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest from the overnight rain, Steven took us to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Although the drive on the unpaved roads were rocky, Steven was a king of drifting with the 4x4 and got us to the trail that leads to the entrance of the Park. It was a moderate to strenuous 30min hike to get to the park entrance. Fortunately the park's rangers and trackers start at 7:30am to locate the family of gorillas prior to our hike so we only had to hike for a little over an hour to reach the gorilla family. We were able to get about 5-7ft away from the gorillas (3 silverbacks, 1 female, 1 juvenile and 1 20week toddler). These gorillas were the most gentle giants and so entertaining to watch! Our other activities include a boat ride along the Kazinga Channel where we were able to see an elephant, several species of birds, so many hippos and a crocodile. Took a boat ride around a few of the 29 islands in the beautifully Lake Bunyonyi. The accommodations were excellent and the meals were delicious every where we stayed. The customer service everywhere we stayed were top services as well. I enjoyed every bit of this trip and I consider it the best trip of my life so far. I highly recommend all travellers to travel with safari for all as they are trustworthy and provide great clients service!Written September 21, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tiki220New Cumberland, PA53 contributionsThe planetarium was quite nice, but my 5-year-old grandson only lasted 20 minutes and lost interest, even though the man at the desk said he would like it. As an animal lover, I was disturbed by the condition of the cages and enclosures. One tank held two turtles, and the larger one was biting the smaller one relentlessly. I told the man at the desk, and he said it was territorial behavior and the little one would survive. Outside in the butterfly enclosure we saw 4 dead butterflies. The owls had no place to hide, and some of the cages for the other birds were way too small. It is a very nice facility with lovely grounds, but someone should investigate the living conditions of the wildlife.Written March 13, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 46AndanFort Myers, FL29 contributionsThis is probably not worth a special trip to see, but if you are in the area and it's open, do check it out. There are exhibits on a regular basis that are always interesting and thoughtfully presented. The museum is on the college campus and you have to hunt for it. That's ok, as it's a very beautifully landscaped campus. You can visit the reflecting pool, complete with fish, and Thomas Edison statue (used to be Edison College).Written February 12, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - diamondqueen71686Remseck am Neckar, Germany151 contributionsVinos Picasso
It was a friend who recommended Vinos-Picasso to us as we were 10 ladies looking for an art class that would also be fun. The studio, located in a nice little plaza in South Fort Myers, is spacious and has two long tables with two rows of seats, each equipped with an easel. Paintings of all sorts of subjects hang on the walls, and Katryna invited us to copy one of them at a time. She had prepared each workstation with a canvas, a color palette with the acrylic paints one need to paint. Brushes in different sizes, pencils and erasers were available at each place. She gives expert advice on the use of colors, mixing the different shades of color and other hints  that convert a work of art into a work of art. During the evening, she had offered wine or Prosecco, but we were so focused on our artwork that did not accept the offer. You can bring your own wine and appetizers, if you like to, but we were serious students that night. There was no time limit. She told us, we could stay as long as we wanted. If a student wishes to paint a specific subject, Katryna will make a sketch on the actual canvas and tell you how to apply the colors to get the best result. All in all, it was a great experience, and we all promised to come back in the fall.Written March 13, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Most of the items have been donated so they are the real thing. The center of the small museum is basically a gift shop with all the display items in the periphery. Learn about all branches of the military and the various wars and memorials.
This museum is staffed by volunteers. Excellent historical museum!

I always find unique works and jewelry to take home from the gift store- many made by the residence of Shell Point. It’s an impressive center for the performing arts.Written February 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
